Mr. George Kochan

Lorain- George Kochan, 83, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, OH.

George was a lifelong resident of Lorain and attended Lorain High School before entering into the United States Air Force. He married his beloved wife, Lois J. (nee: White) on September 26, 1953. He joined the Lorain Fire Department and retired after 20 years of service. George was a proud member of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 267.  He was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State University fan and he enjoyed attending car shows and loved gardening and outdoor work.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Lois J Kochan; and niece, Grayson Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen; sisters, Helen Roig and Jeanne Sommers; and brother, John Jr.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home at 1:00 PM, Rev. Mark Pemberton, officiating. Interment will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp., where military honors will be conducted. Mr. Harry Richard Gerent

February 3, 1933 April 4, 2012

Sheffield Twp- Harry R. Gerent, 79, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012.

He was born on February 3, 1933 in East Prussia in Archikov, Poland to his loving parents, Emil and Emma (nee: Gatske) Gerent. 

Harry moved to Cleveland in 1952 and worked in a tool shop. He then spent two years in the United States Army, stationed in Panama, during the Korean War. Soon after, he graduated from Western Reserve University and became the Athletic Director at the Cleveland Athletic Club where he worked for 17 years. Harry left the CAC and started his own businesses in real estate and investment. He married Christa E. Wilke on February 9, 1959 and raised 3 children in Westlake, Ohio. He moved to and became an involved citizen of Sheffield Village. He loved traveling, hunting, fishing, keggeln (German bowling) and the outdoors. Every year he vacationed in Fort Myers Beach, Florida with all 25 family members. Harry spent every hunting season in Cambridge, Ohio with his boys.  Opi devoted much of his time to his 17 grandchildren and was an active member of Westlake Bible Fellowship. He was a hardworking man with impeccable character and a devoted servant of the Lord. 

Mr. Gerent is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christa; 3 children and their spouses, Nancy (Bob) Markovich, Karen (Scott) Doane, Rick (Dawn) Gerent; 17 grandchildren, Luke, Erika, Troy, Caleb, Drew, Taylor, Lyndy, Christa, Tyler, Emily, Tory, Zach, Abby, Tommy, Maddie, Micah and Timmy; brother, Walter (Annaliese) Gerent.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Friday, April, 13, 2012 from 5-8 PM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Christian Community School, 35716 Royalton Rd., N. Eaton, OH. Mr. James W. Sinclair

Elyria Twp.- James W. "Red" Sinclair, 81, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 24, 2012.

James was born on August 26, 1930 in Lorain, OH to his loving parents, Otis and Lorraine (nee: Fletcher) Sinclair.

He was raised and resided in Elyria Twp. James graduated Markley Grade School and Clearview High School, Class of 1949. He worked at W.C. McConnel Buick, Gargus Garage, Llewelyn Pontiac, Gerbick Pontiac, Wagner Abersol and he retired from Jakmas Plumbing and Heating Inc. in 1991 as an Operating Engineer/Mechanic.

He was an avid fisherman and he loved his parakeets. James raced stock cars at Lorain County Speedway and he enjoyed Nascar racing.

He is survived by his loving children, Dennis (Connie) Sinclair, Karen (Michael) McKillips, Eugene (Suzanne) Sinclair and Cheryl (Joe) Seidensticker; beloved partner of 27 years, Rosetta Rusty Curley; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Jack) Allsop; and sister-in-law, Jackie Sinclair.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis W. and Lorraine Sinclair; and brother, Richard Sinclair.

Lorain- Edward C. Landy, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Westlake Health Care Center, Westlake, OH.

He was born on August 5, 1932 in Polk, OH to his parents, John and Audrey (nee:Carpenter) Landy.

Ed was married to his loving wife, Rachel H. (nee: Hornesby) on October 11, 1969. He worked for the City of Elyria Sanitation Department retiring after 25 years.

 

He is survived by his son, David Dean of Elyria, OH; daughters, Pauline Sissy (Roger) Hoffman of Lorain, OH and Nellie Woods (nee: Dean) of Norwalk, OH; sisters, Shirley Belmont, Kathern Simms and Patricia Kidd; brother, Myron Bud Landy; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years, Rachel H. Landy; his parents, John and Audrey Landy; sisters, Betty and Virginia; brothers, Elmer, Johnny and David.

Mr. Joseph J. Garcia

Lorain- Joseph J. Garcia, 83, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at his home in Lorain, OH.

Joe was born in Lorain, OH on July 25, 1928 to his loving parents, Frank and Francis (Flaczynski).

He married his beloved wife, Jeanne (nee: Sadowski) Garcia on October 20, 1951. Joe worked at Ohio Edison as a Line Supervisor, retiring after 42 years. He was a member of St. Peter Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Joe was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jeanne Garcia; devoted son and caretaker, Bryan (Sandy) Garcia; son, Jeffrey; daughter, Joan Jackson; sister, Marlene Garza; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frances Garcia; and brothers, Henry T. Garcia and Florentino Garcia.

Mr. Joseph E. Jiovanazzo

Elyria- Joseph E. Jiovanazzo, 56, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 11, 2012.

He was born in Utica, NY on December 28, 1955 to Joseph and Rosemary (nee: Fierro).

Joe is a 1974 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School and attended The Ohio State University. Growing up, Joe played baseball and CYO basketball. He also ran track in high school. A self employed financial advisor, Joe liked conducting research and collecting factual information to share with his family and friends. Joes passions include music, DJing on occasion with his extensive music collection, movie watching, cooking, cleaning and brewing coffee.

He is survived by his brothers, Anthony (Lynn) Jiovanazzo of Amherst, OH and Vincent (Tricia) Jiovanazzo of Edina, MN; sister, Mary Beth (Jonathan) Hixon of Eliot, ME; nieces and nephews, Jill and Scott Jiovanazzo from Amherst, Jeff (Jennifer) and Tom Jiovanazzo from Minnesota and Madeline and Thomas Hixon from Maine; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph and Rosemary Jiovanazzo; grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lorain- Daniel W. Maloy, 77, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at EMH in Elyria, OH.

He was born on January 13, 1935 in Lorain, OH to his loving parents, James and Teresa (nee: Mulcahy) Maloy.

He was a lifelong Lorain resident and worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years as an assembler. Daniel was  a member of St. Peter Church in Lorain and he enjoyed traveling in Europe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan T. (nee: Logan) Maloy; daughters, Joan T. Maloy, Mary Maloy, Kelly (Jeff) Mrosko, Tracy (Bill) Oehlke and Monica Maloy; sons, Daniel (Brenda) and  James Maloy; brother, Frank Davoli; and eight grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James C. and Thomas F. Maloy and Richard Collins.

Mr. Alfred Gerhart

Alfred Gerhart, 91, of Signal Mountain, TN passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Alexian Village.

Mr. Gerhart was born in Lorain, Ohio on May 31, 1920.  He attended Lorain public schools, never missing a day of class.  Mr. Gerhart attended Ohio State University majoring in Engineering. 

He served as a Mortarman  in the Army during WWII and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant with Company M, 345th Infantry Regiment, 87th Division. Mr. Gerhart was in the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhine campaign, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Other medals earned prior to his Honorable Discharge in 1946 include two Bronze Stars for Valor, the Good Conduct Medal, American and EAME Theatre Service Medals, and the Victory Medal.

 Mr. Gerhart was employed by Thew Shovel of Lorain for 39 years and was instrumental in the companys relocation to Chattanooga, TN in 1972.  He was married to Florence Bloedorn Gerhart for 47 years until her passing in 1994. 

He is  survived by two sons, Erik Gerhart of Bristow, VA; Karl and daughter-in-law Tricia of Aberdeen, MD; three daughters, Melinda Erswell of Chattanooga, TN; Polly Knapp of Colorado Springs, CO; and Lisa and son-in-law Roy Sonday of Parrish, Florida; 13 grand-children and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM. A celebration service will be held at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannzzo Funeral Home on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M.  The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Gerhart will be laid to rest next to his beloved Florence at Ridgehill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Twp., OH where military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 20. Mrs. Angela Maria Piscione


Lorain- Angela Maria (nee:LaBella) Piscione, 89, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion.
Angela was born January 22, 1923 in Avigliano, Potenza, Italy to her loving parents, Donato and Carmella (nee: Eanniello) LaBella. She later lived in Ripacandida, Potenza, Italy with her first husband, Angelo Martino, who sacrificed his life in WWII during battle while serving in Russia.
She then came to America in December 1954, with her son, Vito, arriving in New York City on the Italian Liner, SS Conte Biancamano. In 1960, she then met and later married, Alex Piscione and in 1961 she gave birth to her daughter, Donna. Angela worked at Lear Romec, St. Peter School and her final and favorite position, as a member of St. Peter Church, she also worked as a cook for the priests at St. Peters Rectory. She was a devoted mother who enjoyed traveling, gardening, crocheting, ceramics and mostly entertaining and cooking for others.
She is survived by her two children, Vito (Ninnetta) Martino of Tinley Park, Chicago and Donna (Jim) Ashton of Sandusky; four grandchildren, Sophia (Marco) Caso, Angelo Martino, Adriano (Michelle) Martino and Mark (Renee) Martino; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo Martino; parents, Donato and Carmella LaBella; husband, Alexander Piscione; brother, Salvatore LaBella; and sister, Assunta Spinazola.
