Mrs. Mary A. Zajkowski-Malick

Lorain- Mary A. Zajkowski-Malick (nee: Braleski), 96, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

 

Mary was born on November 26, 1915 in Lorain, OH to her loving parents, Alex and Pauline (nee: Rutkowski) Braleski and was a lifelong resident of Lorain.

 

She was a lifelong member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Lorain, OH where she attended grade school. Mary graduated from Lorain High School and later she was a kindergarten teacher at Nativity B.V.M. Parish and she also worked at St. Joseph Hospital in pediatrics. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Guild and Mary loved working in her garden.

 

She is survived by her children, Rich (Dolores) Zajkowski, Tom (Gloria) Zajkowski,  Elaine (Phil) Scagliozzo, Joe (Donna) Malick, Jim (Paula) Malick, Jerry (Janet) Malick, Marie (Tom) Gray and John Malick; brothers, Lloyd Braleski and Larry Braleski; sister, Angeline (Edward) Prosak; and  many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Zajkowski; and her husband, Joseph Malick; parents, Alex and Pauline Braleski; brother, Henry Braleski; and sister, Therese Vaughn.

 

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 3-7 PM.  Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9:20 AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 20, 2012 at Nativity B.V.M. Lorain- Robert A. Rob Nuhn, 45, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012.

He was born on November 27, 1966 in Lorain, OH and Robert graduated from Admiral King High School, Class of 1985.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy (Norman) Porostovsky; sisters, Shelly Yost, Gayle Kiser and Nancy Allison; grandmother, Ann Jama; and nieces, Sasha Nuhn and Jessica Allison.

Mr. Eugene E. Glowacki











LORAIN - Eugene E. Glowacki, 82, of Lorain passed away on February 9, 2012. Born January 12, 1930, he was a lifelong resident of Lorain. He was a member of Nativity BVM Church and graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1948B. Everyone that knew him said he was a gentle spirit.                                                                                                                                                  

He was an avid bowler at Saxon Club.  He enjoyed working at his precincts voting booth for many years and took great pride in his service for the U.S. Army.  He was a faithful swim team parent for both his daughters at Oak Hills Country Club.  He was a produce manager at A&P for 27 years, Fligners' Market for 16 years, and his last employment was at Vermilion Farm Market.  He was also a happy member of the Vermilion YMCA.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois (nee:Pasta); daughters, Kandy (Robert) Ellerman of West Chester, Ohio and Kim (Ken) Kurkowski of Virginia; two grandchildren, Lauren Ellerman, student at University of Evansville, Indiana and Brian Ellerman, student at Ohio State University; plus many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Gertrude Glowacki; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Faralene Glowacki; and granddaughter, Kelley Ellerman.

Olga Keyes, 96, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Toledo, OH.

Olga spent most of her  life in Lorain, OH before moving to Toledo, OH ten years ago to be closer to family.

She was born in Lorain, OH on April 20, 1915 to her loving parents, George and Justina (nee: Federizzi) Petkovsek.

Olga graduated from Clearview High School, Class of 1933 and later worked for Elyria Memorial Hospital as a cook. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and music.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristine Tsujimoto of Victoria, TX; son, David Keyes of Toledo, OH; brother, William Petkovsek of Amherst, OH; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sylvia Blake; brothers, Andrew, Frank and Charles Petkovsek; and husband, William Keyes.

Mr. George Leo Dunnigan Jr.

Lorain- George Leo Dunnigan Jr., 88, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at EMH in Elyria, OH.

 

He was born on June 1, 1923 in Lorain, OH to his loving parents, George Leo Sr. and Gertrude M. (nee: Barras) Dunnigan.

 

George was raised in Lorain, OH and graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 9, 1943 and returned home to marry his loving wife Bernice (nee:Chesnut) on October 30, 1943. George honorably served his country during WWII and was discharged on November 8, 1945. He worked with Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, Cleveland Plant as a supervisor, retiring in 1980. George was a member of St. Anthony of Padua, VFW and the AmVets. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and woodworking.

 

He is survived by his five sons, George L. III (Dorothy) of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Robert C. of Sandusky, OH, Thomas E. (Karen) of Sheffield Lake, OH, James P.of Kinston, ALA and Richard L. (Lora) of Elizabethton, TN.  14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Bernice G. Dunnigan; his daughter, Judith G. (nee: Dunnigan) Litten; three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Hans Koschutnik

Lorain- Hans Koschutnik, 82, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2012, after a brief illness, at Lake Pointe Health Center, in Lorain, under the care of Stein Hospice. Hans was born August 21, 1929 to Ivan Koschutnik, a brick layer by trade, and Agnes (Cmor) Koschutnik, in Sloven Gradec, Yugoslavia.  He immigrated to Austria in 1950, and arrived in the United States on January 16th of 1956.

 

A cabinet maker by trade, Hans worked at Sears, Roebuck and Co. for 35 years, retiring in January of 1992.  He was a faithful member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, and a past member of the Lorain Liedertafel Club.  He was an avid chess player and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

 

Hans is survived by Michaela (nee Adlasnig), his wife of 51 years; daughter, Margaret (Basil) Rozmarynowycz; son, Hans, and six grandchildren, Kaileigh and Kristen Koschutnik, Gregory, Angela, Sarah and John Rozmarynowycz; sister-in-law, Francis Sirse; niece, Sonja (James) Love; nephew Frank Sirse; brother, Oto; sister, Ann; and seven nieces and nephews in Sloven Gradec, Slovenia.  Hans was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Karl.

Mr. Bernard L. Giardini

 

Lorain- Bernard L Giardini passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 in Lorain. Bernie was born August 15, 1927 to Antonio and Pauline Giardini both of whom emigrated from Abbruzzi, Italy in the early 1900's. Bernie graduated from Lorain High School, class of 1947 A and lived in Lorain his entire life.

 

Bernie was married to Marietta (nee DiFrancesco) for 62 years and together they had four children, Anthony (Kay), Paulette (William) Smith, Jean (Joseph) Nazario and Sandra (Guy) Wilhelm.

 

A boilermaker by trade, Bernie worked at National Tube and US Steel for about 20 years. He also owned a tavern in Vermilion for over 30 years and concluded his working career as a lottery agent with the Ohio Lottery Commission, retiring in 1999.

 

Bernie was a member of the Abbruzzi Club serving as the club's bar manager for 12 years. He was also active in the Ohio Liquor Dealers Association. Bernie was an avid bowler and softball player. He loved discussing and debating politics, playing the accordian and spending time with his 12 grandchildren, Anthony, Christian, Michael, Robert, Jodi, William, Paul, Angelique, Joseph, Marco, Lauren and Dillon. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jenny Tornabene and Jennie Giardini; and granddaughter, Paige.

 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 4th from 2 to 8 PM at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961. Sharon Rae (nee:Row) Swick

 

Lorain- Sharon R. Swick, 80, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, December 22, 2011 in Lorain.

 

She was the youngest of ten children, born in Junior, WV on May 24, 1931 to her loving parents, Clarence and Rachel. Sharon enjoyed ceramics, reading, competing online Chinese checkers, cake decorating and she especially enjoyed baking at Christmas with her granddaughter.

 

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years of marriage, Junior H; daughters, Charlotte Rae of Lorain and Vickie; son, Bruce (Kim) of Elyria; granddaughter, Jennifer Rae Dispenza.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Mrs. Imogene Tardio

Berea Imogene (nee: Greer)Tardio, age 86, of Berea, OH passed away at home on December 6th 2011 following a brief illness. Imogene was born on April 10, 1925 in Gideon, Missouri to Maude and Charles Greer. As a child, she moved to Cape Girardeau, MO where she sang and played guitar with the Owens Band on the radio and was introduced as Little Missouri Sweetheart. She chose to stay with her family rather than moving to California with the band to continue performing. She was a graduate of Cape Girardeau High. During World War II she moved to Saint Louis to work as an ammunition inspector and met her future husband, Fred Tardio on the Saint Louis Carousel. In 1948, she moved to Lorain, Ohio where she resided for the next sixty one years. She was a founding and active member of the Blazette Auxiliary of Sheffield Township Fire Department. As the matriarch of a large family, Imogene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a doting great grandmother. She was a member of the Church of Saint Peter Catholic Church in Lorain. Besides enjoying spending time with her family, she enjoyed sharing her love of cooking. Cooking for family gatherings was a special time for her and friends were always welcomed to come and share in the festivities. Her other interests included reading, ceramics, and music along with traveling the world with friends and family. She loved her time in Italy the most but also enjoyed trying new adventures. She almost forgot to tell people that she rode a camel in Morocco at seventy nine years of age because it was just another adventure in a life truly lived and enjoyed.  

She is survived by her devoted daughter Maryann Clark, son Dr. Jerry Tardio (David Savchuk), son-in-laws Jerry Brove, Michael Miskov, sister-in-law Joanne (Carl) Geise, Grandchildren Jay (Amber) Brove, Michelle (Randy) Wasuk, Sarah (Mathew) Mahaffy, Amy and Emily Miskov, Patricia (Michael) Peters, Kathryn Tardio and cherished Great-Grand Children Jay M Brove, Kate Brove, Cassandra Flasco, Justice Flasco, Lindsey Wasuk, Mallory Peters, Jillian Peters, Jack Mahaffy, and William Mahaffy. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred Tardio, daughters Margaret Brove, SuzanneMiskov, son-in-law Stephen Clark and sisters Tiny, Lena, Clara, Frankie, Ann, Helen and her brother Freeman.

Mrs. Maria Harkacz


Maria Harkacz (Wintoniuk) 86, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Wesleyan Village following a brief illness. Born on January 21, 1925 in Kolomaya, Ukraine, she was taken from her homeland during World War II to work in Germany, where she met and married her husband, Peter, after the war. In 1950, they left for the United States and settled in Lorain where they raised a family. Maria was employed by Oneils and Hills department stores and after retirement, she and Peter moved to Brunswick, Ohio to be near their grandchildren.

 

Maria was active in the Ukrainian community. She belonged to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Ukrainian National Womens League of America, and the Ukrainian National Home as a charter member.  Maria loved literature, both reading and writing, and frequently contributed poems and articles to Ukrainian publications.  The daughter of a tailor, she enjoyed traditional Ukrainian embroidery.  She created many rushnyki and Ukrainian dolls dressed in historical and regional costumes. Some of her work has been donated to the Ukrainian Museum-Archives in Tremont. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Ukraine where she met her extended family.

Marias greatest joy was her family. She will be deeply missed by husband, Peter of Wesleyan Village, daughter, Anne Petkosek (Arthur) of Amherst, son Myron (Mary) of Lorain, daughter Doris (Richard) Maynard of Seville, grandchildren Andrea (Michael) Reppa, Michael Petkosek, Marco Cuevas, David Harkacz, Eric Maynard, and great grandson Matthew Reppa. She was preceded in death by daughter Loretta in 1966, parents Dimitro and Olana Wintoniuk, and sister Anna Andrichuk of Ukraine.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 pm at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave. Lorain, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm, officiated by Father Craig Hovanec.
