Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Barnicle

Lorain- Elizabeth "Betty" Barnicle (nee: Fulgenzi), 86, passed away at Mercy New Life Hospice

Center in Lorain, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Lorain, Ohio, on February 14, 1930, to her loving parents, Cedino and Felicia (nee: Antonelli) Fulgenzi.

Betty married Daniel W. Barnicle, her childhood sweetheart, on February 26, 1949. Their 67 year marriage was an inspiration to many.

She was a proud member of the Class of 1948 B at Lorain High School, and later attended Lorain Business School. Additionally, Betty valued education and took continuing education courses in technology at Lorain County Community College. As a career woman Betty worked in Telecommunications at T.R.W Nelson Stud Division for 30 years and was lovingly referred to as "Ma Bell" by hundreds who came to know her professionally. She had a knack with technology and a charismatic personality that coworkers trusted. Betty was always on the Corporate Challenge team for T. R. W. as a cheerleader and chaired the committee that adopted the Lorain Manor Nursing home as "grandparents" and hosted their annual Christmas parties.

Betty was a devout Catholic and member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain where she was active in the Holy Name Society, St. Francis Mission Group, and Christ Renews His Parish. Both Betty and her husband were Pre-Cana instructors and actively worked with engaged couples on their journey into marriage. She served as Eucharistic Minister and a yearly volunteer as a baker and worker for the church festival and other events. She invested herself fully into the church.

Philanthropy and service to her community were also a passion of Betty's. She was a member of the Lakeland Women's Club, Knit Wits, Eclectic Group, and The Cosmopolitan Dance Club. Most notably Betty volunteered her time as a member of United Way for over 25 years, serving as secretary and loan executive for The Board of Directors. She was also the Campaign Chairwoman for T.R.W. United Way. She received many recognitions from United Way for her commitment to her community.

Betty enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe, spending time with her friends in social and church groups. She enjoyed swimming, knitting, baking and cooking for family, friends and neighbors. She always had a meal or dessert ready for any event. Her favorite past time was following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their accomplishments via sports, dance, and music events. She was passionate for college and NFL football, and a true supporter of area athletic teams.

Despite her long list of accolades, Betty considered her biggest accomplishment her marriage to Dan and being a mother to two successful children.  She was a devoted friend. She was inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary and sought to mother anyone who was in need of a good hug, advice, or a bit of inspiration.

She is survived by her beloved husband Daniel Barnicle of Lorain; children, Kathy (David) Dobos of Avon and Daniel (Lori) Barnicle of Lorain; grandchildren, Shannon (Brian) Starcher, Daniel A. Barnicle, Kristina (James) Buller, Kara (Robert) Falkowski, and Katie Meade; great grandchildren, Katherine and Alexandra Buller: Nicholas, Griffin, Isabella, and Giselle Starcher: and Gianna and Olivia Falkowski; sister, Mary Jacoby; and special friend, Sue Leone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cedino and Felicia Fulgenzi; siblings, Yolanda Blaha, Jean Brock, Anita Bulzomi, Phillip Trotta, Oscar Trotta, and Fred Fulgenzi; and granddaughter, Gianna Marie Dobos.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961, on Monday, March 28, 2016, from 3:00 - 7:00 PM.
