Lorain- Deanna L. Tudich Leghart, 31, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010. She was born on September 21, 1978 in Fairview Park, a daughter of William and Linda Tudich.

Deanna was a 1996 graduate from Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, where she was a member of the Flag Corps. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, the United Polish Club in Lorain and Knights of Columbus in Lorain. Deanna worked as a dental assistant and later she worked at the United Polish Club in Lorain as a hostess. She will be remembered as a loving daughter and mother.

She is survived by her daughter, Shianne of Lorain; parents, William and Linda Tudich of Lorain; sister, Lisa Tudich of Lorain; Maternal grandmother, Dolores Torrero of Elyria; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Denna Tudich; paternal grandparents, Margaret and Edward Jaskulski and William G. Tudich; maternal grandfather, Arthur Torrero.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Monday, January 18, 2010 from 4-8 PM. Phyllis Chala Vitelli (nee: Telloni), 81, passed peacefully from this world on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Community Health Partners Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born on December 22, 1928 in Lorain, Phyllis graduated from Lorain High School in 1947 and lived her entire life in Lorain.

In the 1970s, Phyllis was employed by the Lorain Public Schools in the food service department and by Campis Restaurant in the 1980s. Her passions were baking for her family, trips to Las Vegas, playing bingo and having a kitchen full of friends and relatives. She is survived by daughters, Julianne Vitelli of Sheffield Lake, Regina Nemeth of Elyria; sons, John (Pat) Vitelli of Elyria and Tom (Bev) of Lorain; and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1975; her son, Charles in 2009; parents, Luigi and Julia Telloni; brothers, Emil, Vincent, Dominic and Tony; and sister, Rose Vida.

Lorain- Robert Bob Mason, 61, after a valiant fight with cancer, passed away at his home on January 11, 2010.

 Bob graduated from Admiral King High School in 1966. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. While in the service, He was Head of the base National Honor Guard. He worked at Ford, Lorain Assembly for 38 years as a Mill Wright and later as a Mechanical Engineer. Bob loved playing golf with his son, grandson and friends.

 He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Janis (nee: Pentz) Mason; son, Christopher (Aura) Mason; grandchildren, Brianna and Aries Mason; mother, Rose (nee: Mason) Eddington; niece, Roselyne Snyder; many cousins; and his dogs, Sarah, Belle and Heidi.

 He is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Florence Keefer.

 A Memorial Gathering in Remembrance of Bob will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Road (Route 83), Avon, OH 44011 on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 1:00 PM, Chaplain Sandie King, officiating (Please meet in the Freedom Mausoleum/Chapel at the main entrance of the cemetery). Amherst - Gaetano Vincenzino Iacobozzi aka, Vincent G. Yacobozzi (93) passed away at his home in Amherst on January 10, 2010. One of the last of the Greatest Generation, Vince was born on December 8, 1916 in Montenero, Italy, to Giacomo and Candida (nee DiFilippo) Iacobozzi. In addition to his parents, Vince was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Anne I. (nee Toth) Yacobozzi in October, 2009, sisters Adela DeArcangelis and Dina DiFilippo a niece, Anna Marie DeArcangelis and most recently, his nephew, Leonard A. Yacobozzi.

In 1936, at the age of 19, he came to the United States. He was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps on February 2, 1942 and served as a Staff Sergeant with the 13th Air Force in the South Pacific for 3 of his 4 military years. He was engaged in the invasion of Guadalcanal in August 1942, the Northern Solomon Islands, the Dutch Indies, New Guinea and the Philippines. He flew 15 combat missions as a gunner in a B-24 Bomber before 4 bouts with Malaria grounded him. His Military awards include Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon/Medal and Philippino Liberation Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star.

As one of the oldest members and Life Member, Vince, served the Italian American Veterans Post #1, Lorain, Ohio, for over 48 years and was an outstanding member and past Chairman of the IAV Color Guard. He participated in Veterans Day, Pearl Harbor Day, Iwo Jima Day, Memorial Day and Lorains International Festival ceremonies as well as countless military funerals with the IAV Color Guard. He served as an honorable member of Amvets, Post 47, Lorain, Ohio, a Lifetime Member of the V.F.W., Post 451, Lorain, Ohio, Chaplin of the Lorain Veterans Council, Lorain Senior Fellowship Club, a charter member of the National World War II Memorial Association and was named Veteran of the Year in 2002 by the Lorain Veterans Council. In April, 2007, at the age of 90, Vinces latest accomplishment was his installation as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, the highest rank in the organization.

At age 87, this proud World War II Veteran got to see his place in history marked as he stood beside other veterans and saluted the long-awaited World War II Memorial on the Mall in Washington, D.C. honoring The Greatest Generation. Vince often stated, This memorial represents the freedoms we have today and to never take it for granted because there may come a day when we dont have those freedoms.

Employed as a metallurgist with U.S. Steel Corp. for 37 years, Vince retired in 1979. Throughout his wonderful life, Vince made sure he gave back to his community and fellow veterans by visiting with veterans in the Brecksville Veterans Hospital and the Solders and Sailors Home in Sandusky, Ohio. He also made a point to visit the childrens orphanage in Oberlin, Ohio donating bicycles and other toys to the children and donated his time to the Lorain Catholic Center preparing meals for those in need.

As a devout Roman Catholic, Vince served as a member of the Holy Name Society, an usher and adult alter server at the Church of St. Peter, Lorain, Ohio, as well as always participating in various fundraisers and events. He was a charter member of the Montenero Club, Lorain, Ohio.

Vince enjoyed golf, bowling, traveling to Florida, Arizona and Italy, the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns, The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Mount Union Purple Raiders.

He is survived by his brothers, Enio (Hazel) Yacobozzi of Dublin, Ohio, Timo (Nancy) Iacobozzi of Griffith, Indiana, three sons, Dennis Yacobozzi (Marty) of Westerville, Ohio, Kenneth Yacobozzi (Ellen) of Grafton, Ohio, Ronald Yacobozzi (Natalie) of Amherst, Ohio, a daughter, Candita Trott (Craig) of Columbus, Ohio, 7 grandsons, Denny (Eleana) Yacobozzi, Dominic Yacobozzi, Matthew Yacobozzi (friend Kristin Bock), Anthony Yacobozzi, Christopher (Connie) Yacobozzi, Nicholas Yacobozzi and Nathan Shubick and numerous nephews, great nephews, nieces and great nieces throughout Italy, France and the United States.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, January, 15th at the Reidy Scanlan Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, Ohio. A memorial service will be conducted by the Knights of Columbus at 6:45 PM followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM by the Church of St. Peter Holy Name Society and then Words of Remembrance/Eulogy. Lorain- Freddy Rivera, 58, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010, at his home in Lorain. Freddy was born on October 11, 1951 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.

He graduated from Admiral King High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Freddy received the National Defense Service Medal. He collected classic cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles enjoyed listening to Latin Jazz music. Freddy worked at U.S. Steel, Lorain Works and Angelica Health Care Services.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Lisa Cruz Rivera; daughters Amanda, Alyssa and Alayna; son, Freddy Orlando; mother, Carmen Rivera; mother-in-law, Gloria Cruz; father-in-law, Ramon Cruz; sisters, Ana Griffith, Carmen Torres, Rosa Miller, Linda Rivera, Minerva Palmero, Soraida Miranda, and Nancy Bruce; one granddaughter; three grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by Father Juan P. Rivera.

Lorain- Kathleen J. Kelley, 45, was born in Los Angeles, California on February 24, 1964. She died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Cleveland Clinic Hospital due to complications from surgery.

She attended St. Peters grade school and played CYO volleyball. She graduated with honors from Marion L. Steele High School in 1982, and attended the University of Akron.

Kathleen was a parishioner of Saint Peters Church in Lorain and served the community as a Eucharistic Minister, a PSR teacher and volunteered countless hours to many local charitable organizations. She worked as an insurance office manager for 25 years at her fathers insurance agency; Jack Kelley, CLU & Associates Inc.

She enjoyed spending time together with family and was a compassionate, caring daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her dog, which she adopted through a rescue agency, also brought her much joy. She was a great pastry baker and enjoyed cooking. She liked to go deep sea fishing and scuba diving.

Kathleen is survived by her parents, Jack and Barbara Kelley of Lorain; brothers, Patrick W. Kelley of Sheffield Lake, Kevin N. Kelley of Wellington and Daniel J. Kelley of Sheffield Village; she had eight nieces and nephews and was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, John J. Kelley, and recently in July 2009, Michael C. Kelley; grandparents, uncle and cousin.

The family will receive friends at St. Peter Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 10:00 AM until time of service. Lorain- Sandra (nee:Schuster) Zielinski, 61, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2009.

Sandy was born on March 10, 1948 in Elyria, OH. She graduated from Elyria High School in 1966. Sandy enjoyed cooking and baking and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving sons, John Zielinski of Berlin Heights and Mark (Amanda) Zielinski of Norwalk; grandchildren, Justin, Zachary and Dresden Zielinski of Norwalk; brother, Ron Schuster of Elyria; sisters, Jane (Jerry) Bailey of Berlin Heights and Peggy (Don) Basinger of Elyria; and companion, Bob Thiel of Amherst.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Leah (nee:Holtzman) Schuster; and sisters, Kaye Marie Schuster and JoAnn Schuster.

Lorain- John F. Todarello, 90, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home, Lorain.

 

John was born on September 23, 1919 to Eugene and Giovannina Todarello in Lorain, Ohio. He graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1937B. John was one of the first three men who were drafted into the Army from Lorain in February 1941. They became friends in the Army Training Camp and were called the 3 Ts as their last name started with T. John trained in several different camps in South Eastern U.S. He was sent to England to train for the invasion of France and was wounded in Normandy in the infantry, sent back to England for recuperation and discharged in 1945 with the Purple Heart. He was a Lorain Patrolmen after a stint in the National Tube CO. and entered employment with the I.R.S. from which he retired. John was a founding member of the I.A.V. Post#1, Lorain.

 

He is survived by his second wife, Connie (nee:Sparino); brothers, Alfred, Angelo and Albert Todarello; sister, Mary Dina Litkovitz; step-children; Barbara Debo, Karen Stohla and Ronald Butrey; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Giovannina; brother, Dominic Todarello; and his first wife, Alice (nee:Shlotz) of Grand Rapids, Ohio.

Marie A. (nee Sofia) DiLuciano, 80, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2009, at EMH, Elyria.

Marie was born August 16, 1929, in Lorain, Ohio to Anthony and Lena (nee Rosso) Sofia. She was a life-long resident of Lorain. Marie graduated from Lorain High School in 1947B.  She married her high school sweetheart, Al DiLuciano, on February 18, 1950. Marie worked as a dental assistant in her early years. She was instrumental in the development of the business aspects of V & A Process. Marie was a member of the Church of St. Peter where she was a member of the Holy Name Society, a home visitor minister for the homebound and nursing homes, and she taught PSR classes. Other memberships include Lorain County Serra Club, Cursillo, Lakeland Womans Club, II Century Council, Little Flowers of Jesus, Ladies Sodality, and St. Francis Mission Group. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, ceramics, reading, and, most importantly, spending time with her family.  

She is survived by her beloved husband of almost 60 years of marriage, Albert R. DiLuciano, of Lorain; loving children, Sue (Joe) Bylica, Randy (Melodi) DiLuciano, Alice (Jim) Wiegand and Russell (fiancé-Sylvia) DiLuciano all of Lorain; dear grandchildren, Corey (Rachel) DiLuciano, Stacey (Tom) Dalton, Gena Szakats, Graig Szakats, Alyssa Wiegand, David Wiegand, Bryan (Liz) Dall, Michael (Andrea) Bylica and Scott Dall; cherished great-grandchildren, Angelina and Alanna Cruz, Tommy and Lincoln Dalton, Aliciana and Ysabella Bylica, Lexy and Caitlin Dall and Rosie and Ray; and dear brother, Philip Sofia.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia DiLuciano, and sister, Frances Rochelmeyer.

Lorain- Rose Marie Zgayb, 79, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain 

Rose was born in Erie, PA on October 17, 1930. Following graduation from high school, she attended Gannon College in Erie, PA and moved to Lorain, OH in 1963.  

Rose was a legal secretary for Attorney Paul Timko and legal librarian for the Lorain and Elyria Courts. She was a past member of Lorain Kiwanis Auxiliary. Rose enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery and painting.  

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael A. Zgayb of Lorain, OH; son, Michael Zgayb of Lorain, OH; and daughter, Michele (Robert) Thrasher of Toledo, OH.  

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th Street, Lorain, OH 44053, Fr. Nicholas R.A.
