Mr. Stanley Kowalski

Lorain- Stanley Kowalski, 91, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home in Lorain, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 10, 1924 in Lorain, OH where he was a lifelong resident. Stan attended Lorain High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion and was honorably discharged in 1946. Stan returned home and married his beloved Bernadine (nee:Hilenski) on January 18, 1947 and they raised three children together. He worked at Broadway Lanes as a manager where he bowled several 300 games, AMF and Brunswick as an installer of bowling lanes, and he worked at the Shipyards as a welder. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, St. Peter's Senior Club, Lifetime member of United Polish Club, member of Polish Legion American Veterans, and a social member of the Italian American Veterans. He enjoyed bowling, going to lunches with his 1942 and 1943 classmates, watching the Cleveland Indians, traveling with his wife and family and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Bernadine; children, Noreen (Peter) Bitz, Tom (Karen) Kowalski and Marcy (Rod) MacKay; grandchildren, Kristine, Douglas, Mathew, Brian and Andrew; great grandchildren, Kellie, Keith, Madeline, Lukas, Zachary and Aiden; brother, Donald Kowalski; sister, Jeannette (Gordon) Swartz; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Kowalski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Kowalski; and brothers, Gerald, Robert and Richard Kowalski;

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Friday, May 15, 2015 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 8:50 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at St. Peter's Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, Fr. Craig M. Hovanec, Pastor, officiating with Deacon Robert J. Dybo assisting. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post 30 and the VFW Post 451.
