Lorain - George R. Locher, 92, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at his home with his son by his side.
He was born in Aliquippa, PA on April 6, 1924.
George moved to Lorain with his family in 1934 and he attended Clearview High School. He started playing and enjoying the game of baseball. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943 serving overseas in the CBI Theater during WWII and he was honorably discharged in 1945. George returned home and resumed his passion for baseball playing in the minor league for several teams before playing as a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox where he recorded 27 outs on the infield in a single game. In 2008, He was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame. Following his professional baseball career he enjoyed playing softball, golfing, bowling while he worked at various jobs including Lakeshore Railroad, Gaylord's and he was a welder at BF Goodrich where he retired in 1988.
He is survived by his daughter, Lauri Staats; sons, Kyle, Tod and Brett (Sylvia) Locher; sister, Marguerite "Peg" Pearson; brother, Dale Sharkey; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Staats and Jason, Christopher, Derek and Marissa Locher; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Melanie; parents, George and Lillian Wilhelmina (nee: Koch) Locher; step-mother, Ruth Sharkey; brothers, Charles Locher and Phil Bellino; and sister, Emma Gregg; step-brother, Clyde Sharkey; step-sister, Geraldine Ferguson.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH, (440) 244-1961 on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 4:00 PM until time of closing prayers at 8:00 PM. was born on January 19, 1928 in Caguas, Puerto Rico to his loving parents,

Residing
in Lorain, OH since 1951, he was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain and
worked as a machine operator for Lake Terminal Railroad Co. in Lorain, retiring
in 1988.
He
is survived by his sister, Dolores Arroyo.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Juana; sisters, Crescencia,
Maria, Leanor and Juana; and brothers, Alejo, Secundino, Segundo, Perfecto and
Isidoro.

Lorain- Marie Rose Montalto (nee Perrier), 99, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain, OH with her loving family at her side.
Marie was the first born to Dominic and Minnie (nee Bove) Perrier on October 9, 1916 in Lorain, OH. She graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1934B. Before her marriage to Joe Montalto on June 17, 1939, she was a legal secretary in the former Broadway Building. After raising their five children, she worked for St. Peter Church and School and for the Lorain City Schools from which she retired. She loved traveling and visiting her children and grandchildren who traversed the nation -- she visited Oregon, Texas, Michigan, New York, California, Illinois, and southern Ohio. She also enjoyed memorable visits to Las Vegas and Hawaii.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Peter, its Holy Name Society, the Senior Citizens of the church, with membership in the Salvation Army Keenagers and a volunteer with her mother, Minnie Perrier, in the coffee shop at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain. She was also active in their arts and crafts group where they made infants' hats and blankets for the hospital patients, and lap robes for nursing home residents. She enjoyed knitting and making afghans for her family and church bazaars.
In recent years she made her home at Anchor Lodge Retirement Village where she participated in many activities and won many a bingo game.
Marie was a kind, gentle woman who had many lifelong friends. She often wrote hand written notes, remembered and acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries with a card and always added her own personal message.
She is survived by loving children and their spouses, Fred (Marian) Montalto of Ft. Worth, TX, Frances (Bevan) Smith of Amherst, OH, Mary Jo (Dan) Duffy of Lorain, OH, Robert Montalto of Athens, OH and Michael Montalto of Oakland, CA; six dear grandchildren and spouses, Donna Eason, Lisa (Jeff) Tumlinson all of Fort Worth, TX, Adam Montalto of Seattle, WA, Joseph (Elizabeth) Perez of Flower Mound, TX, Charles Perez of Lorain, OH, and Angela (Paul) Meyer of Plainfield, IL; ten cherished great grandchildren, Tiffanie and Chance (Jessica) Eason, Andrew, Natalie and Elisabeth Meyer, Cassie and Carlyn Perez, Crystal (Zach) Thomas, Ashley and Taylor Tumlinson; 3 precious great-great grandchildren, Bryson Eason, Landry Thomas, and Madison McCoy; sisters-in-law, Georgene Perrier, and Joan Plumb; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Montalto on July 18, 2008; infant granddaughter, Mary Frances Smith; sisters, Dena Dimacchia and Lucy Phillips; brothers, Alfred Perrier and Vincent Perrier; special aunt, Mary Parreco; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Perrier, Frances Montalto and Grace Rinaldi.
Marie's family thanks and is forever grateful to Anchor Lodge Nurses, Aides, and staff for their loving care and kindness shown to Marie during her residency in assisted living.

Lorain - Louis "Bubby" Artidiello, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
Louis was born in Lorain, OH in 1924 and was a lifelong resident. He attended Lorain High School and earned his high school degree while serving his country. Louis worked at U.S. Steel over 37 years and retired in 1982. He was a member of United Steel Workers 1104. Louis proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship, USS New Jersey for 18 months in the Pacific Theater Operation during WWII. He was a Seaman 1st class, SV-6 and earned 6 medals of distinction. Louis was a lifelong member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, lifetime member of VFW Post 451 and lifetime associate member of the IAV Post 1 in Lorain. He was a gallon club blood donor and coached for many years, junior bowlers in Lorain. His hobbies included bowling, golfing until the age of 90, hunting, fishing, going to casinos and spending time with his family. Louis was an avid Cleveland sports fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marian (nee Johns) Artidiello; sons, Louis Jr. (Denise) Artidiello and Raymond (partner, Awtrey Coleman) Artidiello; daughters, Elaine Graves and Mary Jo (Patrick) Caserta; grandchildren, Louie (Peggy) Artidiello, Michelle Artidiello and Meagan Zelina: Nicole (Michael) Bird and Connie (Joe) DelMonico: and Natalie (Rick) Sykuta and Patrick Caserta Jr; great grandchildren, Gino, Marissa, Maxwell, Branson, Gloria, Kellen, Colton and Jaxon; sister, Lela Armada of Tampa, FL; an Uncle to many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Tony Rodgers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Constantino and Maria Artidiello; and brother, James Artidiello.

Lorain - John Kiser, 86, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016.
He was born in Swiss, WV August 16, 1930 and moved to Lorain in 1988. John was retired from Elkem Metals Alloy in West Virginia after 36 years. He entered into the U.S. Army during the Korean War serving in Germany. He was a member of Beni Keden Shrines, 32nd degree with the Scottish Rite in WV, and 50 years plus member of Gauley Bridge Lodge No 64 AF & AM in WV.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Libby (nee Cox); sons, Rick (Kathy) of Gray, GA and Bob (Lorilee) of Stockport, OH; stepsons, John and Jeff McNeeley of Lorain; sisters, Virgie (Len) Rock of Parma Hts and Luann (George) Duffield of Cleveland; and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Faye Kiser; brother, Sam; and grandson, Albert Kiser.

Lorain - John S. Markutsa, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at University Hospital in Cleveland, OH.
He was born December 5, 1933 in Hamtramck, Michigan to Catherine and John Markutsa. John grew up in the Uniontown, PA area. John graduated from Georges Township High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Air Force shortly after graduating. After spending four years in the Air Force, he later attended West Virginia University and received his degree in Education. He began teaching in the Lorain City Schools in 1960 and retired in 1994. He was a Eucharistic Minister and often took Communion to the homebound. John was a member of Lorain County Serra. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer.
John is survived by his wife, Emily (nee Jones) Molnar-Markutsa; children, Melissa (H. Joseph) Post, Matthew J. (Diana) Markutsa, Amy (Russell) Wygal, David Molnar, and Douglas (Kimberly) Molnar; 18 grandchildren, Gabrielle, David, Andrew and Lauren Post: Kaitlyn and Matthew Jr. Markutsa: Thomas, Allison and Emily Wygal: Danielle (Cody) Freemyer, Benjamin (Codie) Molnar and Terceira Molnar: Caitlin (Spenser) Miller, Alex Molnar: and Alyssa (Sean) Kihara, and Cameron, Sydney and Tyler Pena; great grandchildren, Ella Freemyer and Barrett Molnar; sisters, Catherine Korona, Dorothy Frankhauser, Betty (Terry) O'Reilly, and Marie (Joseph) Korona; and brothers, Robert and Frank Markutsa.

at Amherst Manor Retirement Community in Amherst, Ohio surrounded by family.
Jim was born on November 23, 1939 in Vac, Hungary where he lived until the age of five, moving to Nortorf, Germany until the age of ten when his family immigrated to Lorain through the generous sponsorship of the Alex Novak Family. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's High School. His education continued at Kent State University and Lorain County Community College. He married Suzanne M. (nee LaFleur) on September 8, 1962. James worked at R.E. Warner & Davy-McKee as a civil engineering department manager. After his retirement, he served for eight years as treasurer of Sheffield Lake. James enjoyed woodworking, photography, cartooning, tennis, and reading.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Suzanne M. Hoenig; their five children; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his brother, Bill; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Sr. and Tessa (nee Milus) Hoenig; his brother, Frank Hoenig; and his daughter-in-law, Emily Thomas Hoenig.

Lorain- Mary Lee DiFilippo (nee Burgett), 83, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, Lorain, following a brief illness.
Mrs. DiFilippo was born November 13, 1932 in Lorain, the daughter of the late, LeRoy P. and Gertrude (nee Baker) Burgett.
She graduated from St. Mary's High School, Class of 1950. She married her beloved, Colombo V. DiFilippo on February 23, 1952 and they raised four boys together.
She worked as a bookkeeper for her dad's business, Lorain Builders and later for St. Mary's School. Mary Lee was a member of Nativity BVM Parish in Lorain and a past member of St. Ladislaus Church, St. Mary Church, and St. Anthony of Padua all of Lorain. Mary Lee played the organ and shared her gift of music with many at various churches over the years as help was needed and she played at numerous funeral Masses and weddings. She played regularly for St. Mary's, St. Lad's, and St. Anthony's. She received special recognition from St. Anthony's for her 47 years of service for playing the organ at Catholic churches throughout the county. She enjoyed playing with the Singing Seniors Group at numerous nursing homes and senior centers, watching her soap operas, playing bingo, and working puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, David A. (Colleen) of Sheffield Village, Dennis C. (Donna) of Lorain, Michael J. (Roberta) of Lorain, and Craig V. DiFilippo of Lorain; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Colombo V. DiFilippo in 2005; and brothers, Loren, LeRoy, Daniel, Ronald, and Donald Burgett.

Lorain- Sandra "Sandy" Matuzek (nee Sulpizio), 65, passed away on September 20, 2016.
Sandy was born in Lorain, OH on October 9, 1950 to Sandino and Mary Ellen (nee: Dobbeck) Sulpizio. She graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1969.
Throughout her years, Sandy managed multiple medical practices. Her hobbies included auto racing, bingo, crafts, and visiting bedbound residents at Kingston of Vermilion where she resided.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim (Jerry) Matuzek-Kosco; sisters, Tami Brandon and Judy Kozarec; grandson, Justin Kosco; nephews, Joe and Jake Kozarec; one great niece; and one great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
