Carlos Ortiz

Lorain - Carlos Ortiz, 33, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, November 18, 2016.

He was born in Tlamatoca, Veracruz, Mexico on April 9, 1983 where he was raised until the age of 17 when he moved to the United States. He married his love, Yasmin (nee Saez) on September 2, 2007. Carlos was a self employed contractor and he also worked with Icon Interiors as a contractor. He enjoyed taking care of his home and he loved spending time with his family and walking the pier with his girls.

He is survived by his loving wife, Yasmin Ortiz; and 3 daughters, Estela, Alondra and Aracely Ortiz.

The family will receive friends and family at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH, (440) 244-1961 on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 3:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 PM, Pastor Tim and Pastor Deena Williams, officiating. Mrs. Theresa Piscione

Lorain - Theresa (nee:Iwanski) Piscione, 88, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2016 at Avon Oaks Caring Community.

She was born in Lorain, OH on July 19, 1928 to her loving parents, Stanley and Mary (nee:Zuba) Iwanski.

Theresa was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1946-B and proudly worked at the meat department at the A&P Food Chain from 1954 - 1972. She was a proud lifetime member of Nativity BVM Parish in Lorain and the IAV Post #1, where she volunteered and served in many positions including being a Past State President, Past Local President and was active and involved with the National IAV.

Theresa's greatest accomplishment was her marriage to her loving husband, Augustine. They were married on August 14, 1948 and celebrated 62 years of marriage together. Theresa's joy was her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and her active part in the IAV and the Altar and Rosary Society at her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustine; her parents, Stanley and Mary Iwanski; brother, Pete Iwanski; and great grandson, Armand Piscione. 

She is survived by her sons, Richard (Sherry) of Elyria and Michael (Suzanne) Piscione of LaGrange; daughter, Linda Carucci of Macedonia, Ohio; sister, Clara Porvasnik; grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, Shane, Chad, Michael, David, Nic and Tina Marie; and also, 11 great grandchildren.

Mr. Frank DiLuciano

Lorain - Frank DiLuciano, 77, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, OH with his loving family at his side.

Frank was born on October 22, 1939 to his loving parents, Antonio and Santarella DiLuciano.

He graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1957. Frank was a Lorain City Worker in the Parks Department. for 30 years. He was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish and proud member of the I.A.V. Post 1 in Lorain. He loved reading, watching old movies, gardening, sports and playing cards with his family and friends.

He is survived by his sisters, Rose DeAngelis and Virginia Bulso; four brothers, Alfred (Luisa), John, James and Anthony (Jeanne) DiLuciano; sister-in-law, Simie DiLuciano; and brother-in-law, Jack Tocchi; and many loving nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Santarella DiLuciano; two brothers, Eusebio DiLuciano and Dominic "Red" DiLuciano; and sister, Anne Tocchi.

Thomas Joseph Paterson

Lorain - Thomas J. Paterson, 89, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Thomas was born on January 22, 1927 to his loving parents, Thomas S. and Irene E. (nee Couture) Paterson.

He graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1945B. Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He graduated from Coyne Electric School in Chicago, IL. Thomas was initiated into the IBEW, Local 129 in 1948. He became the business manager for Local 129 and retired in 1989. Thomas married Theresa Anne "Sandy" (nee Zink) on October 24, 1953 and they raised five children together. He was a member of St. Theresa of Avila in Sheffield Village where he was an usher and on the building committee. He was a proud 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 637 where he was an officer and past faithful navigator. Thomas was a life member of Lorain Elks Lodge #1301, VFW Post 451, and Red Barons. He enjoyed being involved and serving his community: City of Lorain Community Development, and Community Development Committee; County of Lorain Bonding Committee, Development Committee, and Blue Ribbon Committee; United Way Board of Directors; Lorain County JVS Advisory Board; and Girl Scouts of Erie Shores Council Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and Cookie Chairperson. He was a skilled woodworker  and enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and gardening at his home.  

He is survived by his children, Cynthia A. (Lee) Smith, Thomas F. Paterson, Charlene M. (Michael) Repko, Cheryl A. (Richard) Robinson, and James J. (Tammy) Paterson all of Lorain; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Irene Paterson; and his wife, Theresa Anne "Sandy" Paterson.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 4:00 - 6:30 PM. Tyler Alexander Marrero

Elyria - Tyler Alexander Marrero, 23, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2016 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born December 11, 1992 to parents, Pablo "Rick" and Shelley (nee Coursey) Marrero in Lorain, Ohio.  Tyler was a 2011 graduate of Midview High School where he was a catcher on the Varsity baseball team and also a member of the Paint Crew.  He attended LaRoche College in McCandless, PA and also LCCC in Elyria. 

Tyler was an accomplished and talented catcher and played with several elite teams traveling across the midwest and southern US. He also played three tours in Puerto Rico with C2C and the Puerto Rican International Baseball League. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his son, whom he adored.

In addition to his parents, Tyler is survived by his son, Adrian Marrero; sisters, Amanda (Raymond) Harker of Lorain, and Taneesha Marrero of Tennessee; grandparents, Larry and Sue Coursey of Sheffield Twp., and Sandy Harrell of Vermilion; nephew and nieces, Noah, Maddison and Kylie Kimmich  and their father, Kyle Kimmich; nephews and niece, Berardino and Vincenzo Bonaminio, Xavier and Izabella Harker; his loving partner, Megan Miller, mother of his son; and many Aunts, Uncles and cousins .

He was preceded in death by paternal Grandmother, Myrna Marrero; maternal Grandfather, Joseph F. Harrell; and maternal Great-Grandmother, Pearl Landreth. 

Friends and family may visit Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday Nov. 10, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul, Rev. Donald Dunson, Pastor, officiating and Deacon Edgar Gonzalez assisting. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a fund established for Tyler's son, Adrian Marrero at any First Merit Bank. Mr. John Mario Bruno

Lorain - John M. Bruno, 87, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016.

John was born in Lorain, OH on January 22, 1929 to his loving parents, Thomas and Christina (née: Coia) Bruno. He attended Lorain High School. In 1950, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Upon returning home, John married Darlene (née: DeChiaro) Bruno on May 16, 1953 and they started their lives together raising four children. John was a Line Supervisor for Ohio Edison Company for 43 years, retiring in 1991. He was an active member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, St. Peter's Holy Name Society, St. Peter's Senior Group, Ohio Edison's Men's Club, and was a lifetime member of the Italian American Veterans (IAV) Post #1, Lorain. John enthusiastically supported the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Darlene; sons, Thomas (Annette) Bruno of Lorain and John (Elizabeth) Bruno of Gross Pointe Park, MI; daughters, Barbara Underwood of New Albany, OH and Christine (Daniel) Cleary of Shorewood, MN; and 7 grandchildren, John Bruno, Philip DeLong, DJ Bruno, Thomas (Kristyn) Bruno, Nicholas Bruno, Siobhan Cleary and Natalie Underwood; brother, Louis (Martha) Bruno of Amherst.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jacob and Dominic Bruno; and sisters, Anna Solak and Elvira Marlow. 

John was a happy, kind-hearted man, who made everyone feel special. He was an inspiration to everyone he touched. His family will forever miss him.

Joseph R. Carpentiere

Lorain- Joseph R. Carpentiere, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, OH.

He was born on February 14, 1930 in Lorain, OH.

Joseph graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War in the 7th Infantry as a 1st Lieutenant and was honorably discharged. Joseph worked at B.F. Goodrich in Avon Lake as a Lab Technician.  He married Barbara Ann (Wright) on December 30, 1955.  They spent most of their lives together in Sheffield Lake. 

He is survived by his loving children, Jo Ann (Andrew) Lee, Mary (Terry) Leonard, Mark (Michele) Carpentiere, and Vicky (Marc) Rasor; sisters, Connie Oleksa and Barbara Reichert; grandchildren, Taryn, Brendan, Blake, Drew, and Gia; three great grandchildren; 6 nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara Ann Carpentiere; parents, Guiseppe and Maria Carpentiere; sisters, Louise Carpentiere and Annette Carpenter.

Grafton - John Allen Vonya, 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at University Hospitals of Elyria.

John was born in Cleveland, OH on September 24, 1942. He graduated from Midview High School and following High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1963. John was a pipefitter at U.S. Steel where he retired.

He is survived by his children, Angela and Dave Vonya; sisters, Linda Costello and Patty Clark; brother, George Vonya; grandchildren, Josh, Desirae, Dashawn, Thomas, Ariyana and Keira; great-grandchildren, Skyla, Brantley and Kaiden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Jane Vonya; son, John Vonya; sister, Betty Ware.

Lois J. Clark

Sheffield Lake - Lois J. (Baum) Clark, 92, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center with her loving family at her side.

She was born on February 9, 1924 in Bellevue, OH and she moved to Lorain at a young age. Lois graduated from Lorain High School, Class 1942B. She married Harry W. Clark on November 29, 1945 and they raised five children together. Lois was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lorain where she was a member of Joy Circle, Altar Guild, and she taught Sunday school. She worked at Shoreway Lanes in Sheffield Lake for 40 years from 1969-2009. Lois was an avid bowler and she was a member of Lorain Women's Bowling Association and Hall of Fame member. She was also a founding member of the Lorain 500 Club. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and she also enjoyed working her crossword puzzles and knitting.

She is survived by her children, Freda Slamcik (Walter Martin), Bruce (Star) Clark, Mary Ruth (Bob) Halas and Tim Clark; sisters, Ruthlee Bertsch and Janice (Dale) Raymond; grandchildren, Jerry, Brian, Ashley, Sherry, Michele, Tim and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Owen, Ian, Issac, Ethan, Brenden, Brayden, Kasen, Maddalynn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Clark in 1984; daughter, Beth McNabb in 2005; parents, Clayton and Ruth Baum; sister, Phyllis Murphy; and many loving family and friends.

Lois's family would like to thank the caring staff of Avon Oaks where Lois resided from June 2015 for their exceptional care for their mother.

Jerome "Jerry" T. Martin

Elyria Township - Jerome "Jerry" T. Martin, 57, formerly from Sheffield Township, passed away suddenly on October 25, 2017. 

He was born May 30, 1959 to Frank and Mary "Dee" Martin.  A graduate of Clearview High School and Lorain County Joint Vocational School, a bricklayer by trade.  Jerry loved gardening and canning the produce.  

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Helen "Renee" Sakal; three children, Jerry, Joey and Jorgie; his mother, Mary "Dee" (McKnight) Martin; brothers, Franky and David(Renee) Martin; sisters, Christine (Edgar) Gonzalez, Deanne(Michael) Newman and Kathy Martin(Kevin Smarsh); brother in law, Paul Ramirez; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Martin Jr.; and a sister, Sandra Ramirez.
