Mr. Peter Harkacz

Peter Harkacz, 93, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015, at Wesleyan Village following a brief illness. Peter Harkacz was born on July 13, 1921 in Muzyliw, Ukraine. He left his homeland during World War II and lived in Germany where he met and married Maria. They immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1950, settling in Lorain. He was employed by Fruehauf Corporation and Lorain Products from which he retired in 1986. After retirement, Peter and Maria moved to Brunswick, Ohio to be near their grandchildren.

Peter had been active in the Ukrainian community. He belonged to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Ukrainian National Home.

Peter was an accomplished woodcraftsman. Throughout his working years and during early retirement, he carved hundreds of decorative Ukrainian Easter eggs called, "pysanky" as well other Ukrainian folk art articles. During the 1950's and 1960's, he was employed as a woodcarving artisan in the construction of church altars and iconostases.

Peter's greatest joy was his family. His companionship, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed by daughter, Anne Petkosek (Arthur) of Amherst, son, Myron (Mary) of Lorain, daughter, Doris (Richard) Maynard of Seville, grandchildren, Andrea (Michael) Reppa, Michael Petkosek, Marco Cuevas, David Harkacz, Eric Maynard, and great grandsons, Matthew and Lucas Reppa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria in 2011 and daughter, Loretta in 1966. Parents, Michailo and Pelagia Harkacz, brother, Harry, and sisters, Evhana and Hannah.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave. Lorain, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, officiated by Fr. Valencheck. A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, the time is pending.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave. Lorain, Ohio 44053; St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Ave. Lorain, Ohio 44055; or Wesleyan Senior Living, 807 West Ave. Elyria, Ohio 44035. Mr. James T. "Jim" Holloway Sr.

Amherst- James T."Jim" Holloway Sr., 66, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain, OH surrounded by his loving family.

James was born in Lorain, OH on August 6, 1948 to his loving parents, Donald "Gabby" and Helen Gloria (nee: Ziegman) Holloway. He attended Lorain city schools where he participated on the High School track team and graduated from Admiral King, Class of 1966. Jim was a member of the swim teams at Club Carousel and Riviera Swim Club. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1969. Jim returned home and attended LCCC and received his Bachelors Degree from Dyke College. He married his beloved Patricia (nee: Garbo) on May 23, 1970 and they raised three children together. Jim worked at Ford Motor Company in Lorain and retired after 30 years of service. He was also a substitute teacher for the Amherst school district.

Jim was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain and he enjoyed helping at the Food Pantry. He was a proud 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 637 and Assembly 811 in Lorain. Jim enjoyed swimming, traveling, working with stained glass, gardening and especially spending time with his cherished grandchildren. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Patricia Holloway; sons, James T. Holloway Jr. and Scott (Emiri) Holloway; daughter, Jennefer (Joseph) Reitzel; grandchildren, Ashley, Erika, James III and Kayla: Rachel and Mia: and Mackenzee, Colin and Erin; great-grandsons, Liam and Kaiden; brother, Brian (Gloria) Holloway; and sister, Barbara Holloway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gloria Holloway.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, January 22, 2015 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 9:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Mary Church, 309 West 7th Street, Lorain, Fr. Daniel O. Divis, Pastor, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where military honors will be performed by the Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard Chapter 20. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be in Jim's name to St. Mary's Choice Food Pantry, 309 West 7th Street, Lorain, OH 44052 or to a charity of the donor's choice. Mrs. Iole Bonaminio

(1929-2015)

Lorain -- Iole N. Bonaminio (nee: Zero), 85, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Golden Acres Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born on July 9, 1929 in Montenero, Val Cocchiara, Italy and had lived in Lorain since 1956.   

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Lorain and the Montenero Society. She worked as a seamstress at Bridals by Mary Ann and later Bridals by Michele for many years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and treasured time with her family.  

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Fernando Bonaminio; her son, Berardino (Susan) Bonaminio of Amherst; daughters, Giulia Bonaminio (Warren Nothnick) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Lori Bonaminio (Marco Gonnella) of Montenero, Val Cocchiara, Italy; nine grandchildren, Nicholas and Gina Bonaminio: Christopher and Michael Nothnick: and Matteo, Mark, Virginia, Francesca and Gabriella Gonnella; two great-grandchildren, Berardino and Vincenzo Bonaminio; and her sister, Virginia Gonnella of Montenero, Val Cocchiara, Italy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francesco and Ercolina Zero (nee: Pallotto); brothers, Florindo and Lucio Zero; and her grandson, Berardino Bonaminio on April 30, 2013.

Cleveland- Daniel "Danny" Martinez, 27, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at his home in Cleveland, OH.

Danny was born on February 22, 1987 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

He is survived by his son, Luis Daniel Martinez; daughter, Lilliana Martinez; brothers, Angel L. (Zenaida) Rios and Jose Flores; and grandmother, Antonia Lugo; all of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis A. Rios and Gloria Martinez.

Betty Jane Hoag

Lorain- Betty Jane Hoag, 60, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at her home in Lorain.

Betty was born in Elyria on January 25, 1954 and was employed with Rosie's Family Restaurant. She enjoyed crocheting and Star Trek.

She is survived by her daughter, Trena Gibson; sisters, Mary Linda Hamilton and Sharon Ann Dunn; 8 grandchildren, Trishalee Clifford, Tonyalou Gibson, Timothy Charles Kirby, Trevor David Nelson, Travis Daniel Nelson: and Tara, Christopher and Amanda Witten; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Clifford and Cameron Witten.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hoag; daughter, Tina Louise Sebastian-Witten; her sister, and Theresa Newbrough.

Mr. Frederick M. Huston

Avon Lake - Frederick M. "Fred" Huston , 71, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Ames Family Hospice of Western Reserve in Westlake, OH surrounded by his loving family. 

Fred was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 11, 1943 to his loving parents, John and Ruth (nee: Arnold) Huston. He was employed at McLean Trucking, St. Johnsbury Trucking, and APA Trucking retiring in 1997. Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy proudly serving on the USS Forrestal. He was a member of the American Legion and the Teamsters Local 261 for 30 years. Fred was an avid golfer, fisherman and was a dedicated Ohio State sports fan.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Karen (nee: Linn) Huston of Avon Lake; daughters, Tamera Miglesz and Heidi (David) Banjoff; sons, Timothy (Amy) Huston and John (Amy) Vasko; sisters, Bonnie (John) Hurst and Carol Ann Huston; brother, Charles (Sally) Huston; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Huston.

A Memorial Service will be held this Spring with Fred's obituary reappearing before that time to announce funeral service information. Daniel F. Meyer



Lorain, Ohio- Dan Meyer, 76, passed away on Saturday, January 3rd, 2015. Dan was born on July 10th, 1938 in Lorain, Ohio.


He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen; loving children, Jenny, Steve, Dan, Donielle, Mark and Steve; grandchildren, Drew, Haylie, Sophia, Charlie, Sarah and Emily; sister, Denise Butti; and many nephews and nieces.



He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ellen; brother, Paul; sister-in-law, Dayle; and grandson, Bryan.


Dan was a retired iron worker and served in the National Guard. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing cards, and was a passionate Indians, Browns, Cavs and Buckeyes fan. O-H! He was larger than life and loved by his many friends and family.


The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Saturday, January 17th, 2015 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 PM, Saturday, January 17th, 2015 at the funeral home with a reception to follow services. Mr. Hugh Glen Jamieson

Lorain- Hugh Glen Jamieson, 92, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Abbewood Assisted Living in Elyria, OH.

Glen was born on April 28, 1922 in Irvine, Scotland. He graduated High School in Scotland and enlisted in the Royal Air Force (RAF) during WWII from 1939-1946, seeing action in France, Belgium, Germany, England and Ireland. His duties included Airfield Defense as a Crewman on  anti-aircraft guns as well as refurbishment on RAF fighter planes in the Normandy Invasion.

Glen married his beloved, Mary (nee: Watters) on September 23, 1949, they raised three children together and as a family moved to the U.S. in 1960 arriving in Connecticut and later moving to Ohio. He worked in manufacturing as a supervisor and he enjoyed golfing, reading, staying up on current events, shopping, and Glen was a N.Y. Yankee's fan.

He is survived by his children, William (Debbie) Jamieson of Sheffield, Roberta (John) Delafrance of Lorain and Gordon (Alicia) Jamieson of Vermilion; grandchildren, Mary, Glen, Michelle: Sarah, Matthew: and Quentin; and great-grandchildren, Billy, Alex, Lauren, Grant, Ethan, Deane, Evan, and Finn.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Jamieson in 1993; parents, William P. and Jessie (nee: Nixon) Jamieson; and brothers, Harry and Willie Jamieson.

Joseph L. DeJesus Sr.

Lorain- Joseph "Joe" DeJesus Sr., 74, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his home in Lorain. 

Joe was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico on December 12, 1940 to his loving parents, Manuel and Dolores DeJesus. He served in the U.S. Army following graduation from Lorain High School and he later worked at the U.S. Steel Mill retiring after 30 years.

 

Joe is survived by his  seven children, Tonya DeJesus, Teresa Criss, Pamela Rodriguez, Joseph DeJesus Jr, John DeJesus, Michael DeJesus and Jillianne Howat; 22 loved grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Ray DeJesus and Manuel DeJesus Jr.

He was preceded in death by his  loving parents, Manuel and Dolores DeJesus; and beloved sister, Gloria Ester Cordero.

Mr. Gerald N. Morog

Lorain- Gerald "Jerry", "Butchie" Morog, 73, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain surrounded by his loving family. 

Jerry was born in Lorain, Ohio on November 3, 1941 to his loving parents, Robert "Moose" and Betty (nee: Smith) Morog. He graduated from Clearview High School and attended many years of in-depth computer training and repair schools. Jerry worked at the Morning Journal as a systems analyst. He started his employment there shortly after High School graduation where he has sinced retired in 2006. He loved fishing and was an avid hunter in earlier years and enjoyed the outdoors.    

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jennifer (nee: Bernsee) Morogof Lorain; two daughters, Michelle Degirolamo of Sandusky, Monica (Dave) Brehun of Avon Lake; grandchildren, Hannah, Alex, Phoebe, Mia; three sisters, Jeannette (John) Schaser, Judy (Huey) Kirk, Joan Morog; one brother, Bob (Mary) Morog; plus nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Morog.
