Lorain- Peter J Carameli, 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain, OH.
Peter was born on August 25, 1922 in Cleveland, OH to his loving parents, Joseph and Rose (nee:Razzano) Carameli.
He graduated from Holy Name High School, Class of 1941. Peter was drafted on May 1943 to serve in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant, Company B 118th Medical Battalion, during WWII. While serving his country, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorius Unit Award and the WWII Victory Medal. Peter was honorably discharged on January 1946. He was married on February 7, 1948 to his beloved wife, Helen A. (nee:Greco). Peter worked in Production for General Motors for 32 years and at A & P Grocery as a stockperson for 8 years. He was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Lorain, OH. Peter enjoyed playing baseball as a young man and he always enjoyed watching sports.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years of marriage, Helen A. Carameli; daughter, Rosemarie Carameli; grandchildren, Patrick (Dawn) Carameli, Justine (Kevin) Hayes, Kim, Kris and Vince; nephew, Pasquale Amato; niece, Denise Moores; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-nieces; great-nephews; and his neighbor and Main Man, Dennis Jessel and his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ralph Carameli; sister, and Nancy Amato.
A private funeral service will be held at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 at a later date. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, OH. Mary C. Kane (nee McDermott) went to the Lord on May 15, 2011 at the age of 91.
Mary was a lifetime resident of Lorain, born August 30, 1919 to Albert James and Catherine Mary McDermott.
She was the eldest of eight children and often helped care for her younger siblings. Mary graduated from Lorain Senior High School and Kent State University where she met and eventually married Thomas H. Kane on May 1, 1942. She was an elementary school teacher in the Lorain City Schools for over thirty years, retiring in 1979. Growing up, Mary attended St. Mary's Church, but after her marriage, St. Anthony of Padua Church became her parish, where for many years she was a member of both Christian Mothers and the Marion Guild. Mary embraced her Irish heritage, loved God and was devoted to her Roman Catholic religion. She closely followed her extended family, was an avid reader, enjoyed watching all kinds of sports, especially Notre Dame football, doing crossword puzzles, playing scrabble and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Michael of Huntingtown, Maryland, Thomas of Lorain; daughter, Mary L.(Felix) Rosario of Lorain; her brothers, Dr. Thomas McDermott of California, retired Col. Michael McDermott of Virginia; sisters, Catherine Hahn of Elyria, Rita Barnard of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Kane; son, Timothy; her companion of several years, Gene Francis; great-granddaughter, Victoria; brothers, Tommy at age two, and Albert McDermott; sister, Teresa Joan Lowrie; and her parents. Mary will be missed by her family, friends, neighbors, church and all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 9:20 A. M. at the Funeral Home followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue in Lorain, Fr. Richard E. Hudak, Pastor, officiating. Lorain- Alexander Joseph Yager, 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain, OH.
Alex was born on September 24, 1923 to his loving parents, Gabriel and Barbara Yager in Czechoslovakia and lived there from 1923 1929. He arrived in Lorain, OH with his family in 1929. Alex enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, serving during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned home from war and married, Mary (nee: Letizia) on October 5, 1946. Alex worked at United States Steel Co. for 35 years as a technician. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua, IAV Post #1 and a Lifetime member of the VFW Post #1079. He enjoyed bowling with friends, casino trips and playing the lottery. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and he loved his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years of marriage, Mary Yager; sons, Richard and Jeff Yager; grandchildren, Mallory Walsh, Andy and Adam Yager; and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Sextella and Agnes.

Amherst- Matt Korzan, 60, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 5, 2011.
Matt was born on May 31, 1950 to his parents, Michael and Helen (nee:Slanczka) Korzan in Elyria, OH.
He graduated from Elyria High School, Class of 1969. Following High School, Matt enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1969, serving during Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Three Overseas Bars. He was honorably discharged and returned home safely in July 1972. Matt worked as a Supervisor/Welder at Multi-Link in Elyria for over ten years. He married his loving wife Jeanne on January 2, 1987. Matt enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns with his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, puzzle books, home projects and helping others.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years of marriage, Jeanne (nee: Scagliozzo) Korzan; mother, Helen Korzan; three children, Melissa (Bob) Phillips, David (Michelle) Korzan and Jennifer (Paul) Doseck; twin brother, Michael (Carol) Korzan; brother, Tony (Rachel) Korzan; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Korzan.

Dorothy was born on March 12, 1924 to her loving parents, Leon A. and Adia (nee: Builder) Hatch in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dorothy graduated from Lakewood High School, Class of 1942. In 1951, she married Joseph Germaine and they spent most of their lives together in Lorain, Ohio.
She is survived by her sister, Hester (Robert) Roeder; brother, James (Marianne) Hatch;
She was preceded in death by her loving parents; beloved husband, Joseph Germaine; and brother, Charles Hatch.

He was born on August 24, 1947 to his parents, Virgil H. and Helen (nee:Noel) McCoy in Lorain, OH. Gene spent most of his life in Lorain. He worked at Springvale Golf Course for over 20 years. Gene enjoyed watching football games with his family and friends, working out, fishing and his dog, Buttons.
He is survived by his loving children, Richard E. McCoy of Sheffield, OH, Manuel R. (Sandra-fiance) McCoy of Lorain, OH, Fabian A. McCoy of Lorain, OH and Eugene A. (Netta) McCoy of Lorain, OH; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gregory, Larry, Terry and Michael McCoy; sisters, Wanda Pitts-Woody and Mary Jane Michaels; step-children, Jeff and Jerry Bruce; and step-brothers, Scott and Leonard Ashley
He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil McCoy and Helen Ashley.

Elyria- Sam Scagliozzo, 85, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain, OH.
Sam was born on January 18, 1926 to his parents, Michael and Geatoni (nee: Trifiletti) Scagliozzo in Lorain, OH. He attended Lorain High School and on April 20, 1944, he was drafted in the United States Army. Sam was a rifleman during WWII, serving in the Rhineland, Central Europe and he was attached to the 261st Infantry Regiment, 65th Division. He received the Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal WWII, Army of Occupation Medal Germany and he was Honorably discharged on June 23, 1946. On June 28, 1947, Sam married Ann (nee: Palazzi). Together they raised three children. He worked at the S. Weitz Co.as a presser for 17 years and as an assistant supervisor at Lorain Products Corporation, where he retired after 35 years. Sam was a parishioner of St. Vincent DePaul Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years of marriage, Ann Scagliozzo of Elyria, OH; loving daughters, Jeanne (Matt) Korzan of Amherst, OH and Lynne (Louis) Shukait of Amherst, OH; brother, Phillip (Elaine) Scagliozzo of Lorain, OH; granddaughter, Jennifer (Paul) Doseck; grandsons, Louie Shukait, Aaron, Greg and Kevin; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Michael S. Scagliozzo in 1986.

Lorain- Mary Josephine Sparaino, 87, passed away on April 14, 2011, at New Life Hospice in Lorain, OH.
Mary Jo was born on May 12, 1923 to her loving parents, Louis and Mary (nee: Ferraro) Sparaino in Gangi, Sicily, Italy but she was a Lorain resident most of her life. Mary Jo was a member of St. Peter Church in Lorain, OH and she graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1941. She was employed by Lorain Products where she retired at the age of 62.
She is survived by her sister, Connie (nee: Sparaino) Butrey- Todarello of Lorain, OH; sister-in-law, Betty Sparaino-Carasini; six nieces and nephews who affectionately called her Auntie Jo Jo, Barbara (Ken) Debo, Karen(Steve) Stohla, Ron Butrey, Lew (Maggie) Sparaino Bobby Sparaino and Doreen Hobbs; ten great nieces and nephews; and twelve great-great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Sparaino and her brother, Tony Sparaino.

Lorain- Jeanette E. (nee: Borebash) Nemeth, 69, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at her home in Lorain, OH.
Jeanette was born in Lorain, OH on January 3, 1942 to her parents, Cyril and Alice (Borebash) Borer.
She was raised in Lorain and graduated from Clearview High School, Class of 1960. Jeanette married Robert in 1962 at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Lorain. Jeanette and Robert were blessed with two children and joined St. Peter Church in Lorain. She enjoyed traveling and loved her family.
Jeanette is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert P. Nemeth; son, Philip R. Nemeth; and sister, Diane Sams.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jeanine T. Nemeth; and sister, Donna Borer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 9, 2011 at St. Peter Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, Rev. Craig M. Hovanec, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
