Daniel Allen Sines

Lorain- Daniel Allen Sines, 37, passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2014.

Daniel was born in Amherst, OH on August 16, 1976 to Lois (nee: Collins) and Ronald Sines. His hobbies included restoring vehicles, get togethers and the American Legion.

He is survived by his parents, Lois Sines of Vermilion, OH, Ronald (Mary) Sines of Carrollton, GA; sister, Kimberly (John) Boggess of Wakeman, OH; brothers, Ronald (Courtney) Sines of Lorain, Shannon (Dina) Sines of Villa Rica, GA, Hamilton (Jessica) Sines of Villa Rica, GA. and Brian (Betsy) Sines of Lorain, OH; step-daughter, Elizabeth Woods; ten nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Margaret Sines: and Helen and Hamilton Collins.

The family will receive friends at American Legion Post 30, 1112 W Erie Ave., Lorain, OH on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 4-8 PM with a memorial service to be held at 6:00 PM, Rev. Dr. Bradley Donahue, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the family at the memorial service. Mrs. Phyllis Phillips

Lorain- Phyllis Phillips (nee:Brunotts), 82, was called home on Thursday, May 1, 2014 to be reunited with her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank Phillips Sr.

Phyllis was born on July 19, 1931 in Lorain, OH. She graduated from Lorain High School and she married her beloved husband Frank Phillips on September 29, 1951 raising three children together. Phyllis was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain, Lakeland Woman's Club in Lorain, a lifetime member of the IAV Post #1 where she served as National, State and Local President of the Women's Auxiliary and a member of the American Business Women's Association of Lorain where she also served as President. She owned and operated Flowers by Lucy and Phyllis in Lorain along with her mother and later worked for Lorain City Schools as a teacher's aide. Phyllis enjoyed playing cards, casino bus trips, cooking, sunsets, dancing with her husband and spending time together on holidays and special occasions with her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving children, Frank (Debra) Phillips Jr, Deborah (William) Siskovic and Joseph (Susan) Phillips; grandchildren, Heather Phillips, Holly (Ryan) Burt and Cynthia (Matthew) Shafley: Justin (Alaina) Houston and Jennah Siskovic: and Joseph (Lauren) Phillips; and cherished great grandchildren, Madalynn, Carra, Isabella and Allaura.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank Phillips Sr. on February 8, 2014; infant daughter, Lucy Ann Phillips; parents, Joseph and Lucy (nee: Balena) Brunotts; and sister, Clara Brunotts.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. The IAV Women's Auxiliary will conduct their services at the funeral home on Friday at 9:00 AM with closing prayers to follow at 9:20 AM. Mr. Carl "Duke" Hunt

Lorain- Carl "Duke" Hunt, 83, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Center Ridge Health Campus in North Ridgeville, OH.

Duke was born on December 21, 1930 in Lick Creek, KY to his loving parents, Charles and Lulu (nee: Dennison) Hunt. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954. Duke married his beloved wife, Peggy Joyce (nee: Sawyers) on March 1, 1952 and they raised four daughters together, Vertis Ann, Teresa, Carlyn and Brenda. He worked at U.S. Steel for 33 years as a Crane Operator and retired in 1984.

Duke was a proud Veteran and he was a member of Local Union 1104. He loved to camp, work on cars and especially loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy Joyce Hunt; daughters, Vertis Ann Clements of Lorain, Teresa (Chris Lee-fiance) Stanchak of Lorain, Carlyn (Timothy) Naelitz of Lorain and Brenda (Mark) Knierim of Riverview, FL; brother, James Hunt; and he was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lulu (nee: Dennison) Hunt; sister, Ertha Abshire; and brother, Delmo Hunt.

Private services will be held at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 followed by a private Christian burial service at New Russia Township Cemetery in Oberlin, OH with military services by the U.S. Army and Rev. Mr. Patrick Joseph Downie

Elyria- Patrick Joseph Downie, 85, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic.

Patrick was born in Coatbridge, Scotland on July 20, 1928. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1946 and earned his Associate Degree from Fenn College of Engineering at Cleveland State University. Patrick enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946, and served as Chaplain's Assistant. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947.

Patrick married his loving, dedicated wife, Patricia E. (nee: Turner) on August 27, 1966 and they raised their two sons and daughter together. He worked at U.S. Steel for over 50 years as a Project Engineer. Patrick was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Elyria and attended church weekly. He enjoyed fishing and boating with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He lived for his family and was passionate about his country. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia E. Downie; daughter, Lisa (Allen) Dubois; sons, Patrick (Rachel) Downie and Mark (Helen) Downie; grandchildren, Sean and Christopher Dubois and Madeline and Markus Downie; twin sister, Mary Ann "Mae" (Ollie) Treboniak; brother, John F. Downie; and nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph and Mary Jane (nee: O'Brien) Downie; and  sister, Elizabeth "Betty" (Richard) Svat.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 1-3 and 5-7 PM. Mr. Thomas Vincent Wallace

Amherst- Thomas "Red" Wallace, 67, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lorain, OH on July 7, 1946 and graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1964. He married his beloved, Catherine (nee: Price) on September 9, 1967.

He worked at Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in Avon Lake and First Energy where he retired in 2002.

He was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain and he enjoyed fishing and gardening and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years of marriage, Catherine J. Wallace; son, John (Debra) Wallace; grandchildren, Kristen and Joshua Wallace; sisters, Mary Beth Mihalik and Joan (Dennis) Warner; and sister-in-law, Donna Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Vincent and Mary Agnes (nee: McMahon); brother, James Wallace; and brother-in-law, William Mihalik.

ELYRIA - Tina L. Sebastian-Witten, 43, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014 at University Hospital in Cleveland, OH. She was born on November 17, 1970 in Amherst, Ohio. Tina graduated from Elyria West High School, Class of 1990. She loved butterflies and enjoyed coloring.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Jane Hoag; sister, Trena (David Nelson-fiance) Gibson; and children, Tara Cuenin, Chris Witten, and Amanda Witten.She was preceded in death by her dad, Nicholas Demich Jr.; and her grandmother, Arminda Hamilton.

Mr. Joseph A. Conway

Lorain- Joseph A. Conway, 65, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2014 at his Florida residence.  Joe leaves behind a loving wife and best friend of 32 years, Gail (nee: Kippenberger) Conway.   Born in Cambridge, MA to Gladys E. (nee: Boudreau) Conway and Joseph A. Conway [deceased], Joe was an only child who leaves behind two daughters and four grandchildren. Joe had earned a BA in Math from Suffolk University, an electrical engineering degree from Wentworth Institute and an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College. Joseph worked in Electronic Sales at General Electric for 30 years. His primary passion was his love and devotion to his wife, Gail, who were seldom parted. Like his patron Saint Joseph, Joe was a patient and humble man who could build and fix anything, tell a great story and enjoy a good laugh.  He generously helped anyone who needed his expertise. Joe was an avid bridge player, master chess player, world traveler, civil war buff, golfer and expert marksman. His favorite pastime was riding his BMW/Harley. Joe served as the Director of Elyria Harley Davidson. He was a member of the West Cleveland Hogs and an officer of Cleveland BMW. He spoke fluent French and Latin.

Mrs. Bernice A. Sadowski

Lorain- Bernice A. (nee: Olejko) Sadowski, 95, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2014 at the New Life Hospice Center. Born on July 27, 1918 she was a lifelong resident of Lorain. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, was a founding member of the P.T.O; Altar and Rosary Society, Choir, and the Cursillo Movement.

Bernice enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, traveling, was noted for her chiffon cakes, and was affectionally called "Aunt Cookie".

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Gerald (Monika) of Surprise, Ariz., Janice (Robert)Buckholtz of Englewood, Oh, Norman (Tammy) of Mantua, Oh, Joseph (Kathie) of Crawdfordsville, Ind., and John (Rosemary) of Lorain; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; Sisters, Josephine Schneider, Helen Chmielewski, Mary Poprock, and Stella James.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Milton F. Sadowski. Her parents Blazej and Stella (Ginalski) Olejko; Brothers, Joseph Olejko, Frank Olejko, John Olejko, Alex Olejko, and infant brother, Karolek; and Sister Jenni Walend.

The family will receive friends on Sunday March 30th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm in Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 where The Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 1:00 pm. Funeral Services will be Monday March 31st at 9:30 am in the Funeral Home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Nativity BVM Catholic Church,  418 W. 15th St, Lorain, where Rev. Mr. Evo Ricci

Lorain- Evo "Papa" Ricci, 94, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 30, 1919 in Shickshinny, PA and moved to Lorain, OH in 1946. Evo worked as a mill wright with U.S. Steel from 1946 until time of retirement in 1982. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 during WWII. He served as a Tec Sgt with Headquarters Co. in the 111th Infantry attached to the 7th Army division. Evo served in Asiatic Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945 receiving the WWII Victory Ribbon. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Antoinette (nee: Romeo) in 1950. They celebrated their 64th anniversary on February 11, 2014. Through the years, Evo enjoyed writing songs for his beloved wife. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the harmonica, gardening and especially spending time with his loving family. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Lorain and a former member of VFW Post 451.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Antoinette Ricci; son, Ron (Diane) Ricci of Elyria, OH; daughters, Christina (Frank) Jachym of Lorain, OH and Diana Redilla of Avon Lake, OH; grandchildren, Kimberly (Zach) Boesken, Gina Redilla, Veronica Jachym and Ryan Redilla; great grandson, Zachary "Zachy" Boesken Jr.;  step grandchildren, Kyle, Brenden, Morgan, Anthony, Lauren and Blake; brothers, Primo and Jerry Ricci; sister, Julia Chartnitski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Natale and Vittoria (nee: Serafini) Ricci; brothers, Cpl. Peter Paul who was killed in action in Iwo Jima during WWII and Geno Ricci; sisters, Delfina McLaughlin and Marine Wolff.
