Mr. William Joseph Zaroslinski

William J. Zaroslinski, 56, of Lorain, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014. He was born on June 25, 1957 in Lorain, Ohio. He grew up in Sheffield Lake and graduated from Brookside High School in 1975. William started his career with Ford Motor Company at the Lorain Assembly plant. In 1997, he was transferred to Louisville, Kentucky where he retired after 30 years of service. In that time, he and his wife, Wendy, raised three sons and spent the years after enjoying time with their grandchildren. William enjoyed the adventures that came while riding his Harley, sharing stories with friends and always looked forward to coming home to their dogs Hooch and Neche. He was a husband, father, brother, uncle and son.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Wendy J. Zaroslinski; his parents, Edgar and Mercy Carder; sons, Mathew and his partner Nick: Jason and his wife Tracy with their children, Tyler, Jessica, Jamie and Jasmine: Gregory and his wife Jamie with their children, Sydney and Blake; sisters, Mayetta Haynes and Jennifer Carder; brother, Allen Carder; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Zaroslinski; and his brother, Carl "David" Smith.

Ron Matuzek

Lorain- Ron Matuzek, 58, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

Ron was born in Lorain, OH on October 21, 1955 to his loving parents, Albert and Ailene (nee: Esser) Matuzek and was a lifelong resident of Lorain. He graduated from Admiral King High School, Class of 1974. Ron was a certified mechanic for several years and also worked in the automotive industry. He was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain, the NRA, and North American Fishing Club. He enjoyed playing darts, auto racing, fishing, camping, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Kurianowicz-Matuzek; daughter, Kim (Jerry) Matuzek-Kosco; mother, Ailene Matuzek; sister, Yolanda (Vaughn) Zajicek; grandson, Justin Kosco; step daughters, Tina Kurianowicz and Tracy Ames; niece, Jenifer; great nephew, Korey; and godson, Damon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert L. Matuzek; nephew, Vaughn K. ZajicekII; and grandparents.

Mr. Edward Carl Domazet

Lorain- Edward Carl Domazet, was born to Frances and William Domazet on November 1, 1923, weighing 2 pounds 11 ounces. He died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the age of 90. Edward was born and raised in Lorain where he graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1942B. Following graduation, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL studying Armature Wiring. Upon completion of the course, he went to work for U.S. Steel in the electric shop retiring July 31, 1986.

Edward married his only true love, Doris May McAfee on September 11, 1946 in the old St. John's Church of Lorain. Edward and Doris celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to her death in 2001. The couple had two daughters, Carol and Ruth. Edward was known as "Cookie the Cigar Smoking Accordion Player of Lorain." He played his accordion with the old Jolly Boys Orchestra entertaining several generations in Lorain. Edward also gave music lessons at Driscol's Music store and gave lessons to some students in their homes.

He was a past member of Lorain Harbor Lion's Club. Edward also enjoyed his time on the bowling and billiard teams of the South Lorain Croatian Club. Satisfying his passion for travel, he took several cruises with his daughters. He and Carol made several trips to Nevada visiting Ruth and her family. His other passions were fishing, card playing, billiards, model building and smoking his cigars. He spent many hours visiting with neighborhood children and bird watching.

He is survived by daughters, Carol Ramer of Lorain and Ruth (Bob) Stransky of Virginia City, Nevada; grandchildren, Daniel, Robert, Travis, Trent, Tracie and Tricia; nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and he will be sorely missed by his Chihuahuas, Minnie and Molly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother, William, and nephew, Carl.

Mr. Frank Phillips Sr

Lorain- Frank Phillips Sr., 87, was called home on Saturday, February 8, 2014 surrounded by his wife and loving family at Avon Oaks Nursing Home.

Frank was born on January 14, 1927 in Kulpmont, PA. He married his beloved wife Phyllis (nee: Brunotts) on September 29, 1951 raising three children together. Frank worked in Quality Control at Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 35 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain, a lifetime member of the IAV and a past member of the Sheffield Lions Club where he served as President. Frank enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, casino bus trips, working around the house, sunsets, fishing, boating, spending time with his family and dancing with his wife.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Phyllis Phillips; loving children, Frank (Debra) Phillips Jr; Deborah (William) Siskovic and Joseph (Susan) Phillips; grandchildren, Heather Phillips, Holly (Ryan) Burt and Cynthia (Matthew) Shafley: Justin (Alaina) Houston and Jennah Siskovic: and Joseph (Lauren) Phillips; and cherished great grandchildren, Madalynn, Carra, Isabella and Allaura; siblings, Joseph (Marilyn) Phillips and Esther Cummings.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lucy Ann Phillips; parents, Bert and Esther (nee: Pandy) Phillips; siblings, Julia Sparr, Mary Wright, Betty Kennedy, and Steve, Bert, John, and Alex Phillips;

Mr. Ronald E. Tennant

Lorain- Ronald E. Tennant, 73, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

Ronald was born in Jackson Township, PA on August 4, 1940, moved to Lorain in the 1950's and he married Helen (nee: Bruce) on January 18, 1961, raising two children together.

He graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1958B. Ronald was employed in building supply industry and retired from City of North Olmsted as a Property Maintenance Inspector.

He was member of St. Anthony of Padua in Lorain and a former member of Christ United Methodist Church. Very proud of his Scottish heritage, Ronald was a founding member of Lochaber Pipe Band and a member of Sons of the American Revolution and the Lorain Historical Society.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen Tennant; children, Bruce H. (Phyllis) Tennant and Becky (Marty) Domines both of Lorain; brother, Carl Phillips; sister-in-law, Virginia Phillips; grandchildren, Rosie (Ted) Branham, Alyssa and Cameron Tennant; 4 great-grandchildren; cousin, Goldie Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arleigh and Catherine (nee: Phillips) Tennant; in-laws, William and Donna Bruce; brothers, William Phillips and Clarence "Bud" (Linda) Tennant; and sister, Connie (Bob) Addis.

Mrs. Marguerite "SIS" Damm Mielcarek

Lorain- Marguerite "SIS" Damm Mielcarek, 81, went to meet the Lord on February 2, 2014 after an 11 month illness of a broken heart.

She was born on September 17, 1932 in Elyria, Ohio to Alfred and Marguerite (nee: Carr) Damm. Marguerite moved to Lorain at age 10 and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1950 and then from M.B. Johnson School of Nursing in 1953.

She was Director of Nursing for the Sprenger family at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home for 17 years. After retirement, she helped as a hostess at the family business, Ghoulardis in Lorain. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan having attended her first game there on a bus from St. Mary's in 1948. She was also a fan of Lorain Catholic Girls Basketball where her son Al coached.

She is survived by her children, Marguerite Deborah Parker (Woody Garcia), Gerald (Vera), Michael, and Al Mielcarek; three granddaughters, Marguerite Cher Parker, Ashley and Erica Mielcarek; two grandsons, Liam and Tyler Mielcarek; three great grandsons, Trenton, Austin, and Gavin Mielcarek; two great granddaughters, Cali Hughes and Giana Marguerite Gill; three nephews, Dr. William Damm, Jeff and Matt Fenn; brother-in-law, Richard (Sandy) Mielcarek; sister-in-law, Germaine (Mike) Pavelschak; former sister-in-law, Diane (Don) Podnar; nieces, Nari (Alton) Todd and Yasmin Zughni; and cousins, Barb (Frank) Santo and Peggy Marsh.

She was preceded in death by her son, James "Jimmy Mill" Mielcarek 3/2/2013; father, Alfred in 1968; mother, Marguerite in 1994; brothers, William Damm in 1975, Bernard in 1930 and Alfred Damm in 2008; and sister-in-law, Florence Damm in 2009.

Clementine

Lorain - Clementine M. Costello (nee: Giardini), age 94, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center, following an extended illness.

Clementine was born September 14, 1919 in the lovely town of Lincoln Hills, PA.  She had been a resident of Lorain since her childhood. She was the loving daughter of Antonio and Pauline (nee: Spaghett) Giardini, both of whom emigrated from Abbruzzi, Italy in the early 1900's. Clementine was married to John Costello on September 4, 1944 and they shared 66 wonderful years together. "Clem" took great pride in her ability to "dress" customers of her employers which included, Jonas Dress, Young Timers, and Harry's Men's Wear.  She loved to tell the stories of how she could make anyone look great. A parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, she read her bible daily and was always happy to spread the word and readings. Clementine was also an outstanding cook and enjoyed making "her" famous Italian wedding soup, "special sauce" and the most wonderful homemade bread and pepperoni rolls.

She is survived by her son, Peter (Deborah nee: Parks) of Lorain and daughter-in-laws, Dawn Costello (nee: Taylor), and Creta Costello nee: Ball) both of Lorain.  Clem was also the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Gina, Christina, Peter, Destiney, Lisa, Joanna, and John; as well as 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; son, Anthony and an infant; as well as her parents, Antonio and Pauline (nee: Spaghett) Giardini; two sisters, Jenny Tornabeme and Jennie Giardini; and brother, Bernard Giardini.

Mr. Thomas Michael DeNicola

Elyria- Thomas "Frogg" DeNicola, 67, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, January 27, 2014.

Thomas was born on October 11, 1946 in Lorain, Ohio. He graduated from Admiral King High School, Class of 1964 and following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy during Vietnam on August 17, 1964, serving on the USS Haleakala and was honorably discharged on October 3, 1967. He married, Angie (nee: Nagy) on February 14, 1985. He worked for the Lorain City Police Department as a Patrolman for 25 years and was shot in the line of duty. Thomas was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign War, Amvets and Amherst Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Wii bowling.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Angie DeNicola; children, Tom DeNicola of Atlanta, GA, Josh (Jacinda) DeNicola of Savanah, GA, Tony (Deanna) Phillips of Vermilion, OH and Jonathon (Dora) Phillips of Sheffield Lake, OH; sisters, Mary Ellen (Joe) Guerrieri, Peggy (John) Lukachko, Janice (John) Manecci and Chris DeNicola; brother, Dan (Chris) DeNicola; ten grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Captain Michael T. and Dorothy (nee: Yost) DeNicola.

Mr. Albert L. Lynam

Lorain- Albert L. Lynam, 87, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain, OH.

He was born in Wildwood, NJ and lived in Lorain for the last 41 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 69th infantry division. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, ETO Ribbon with three stars, Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He worked in the shipbuilding industry. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 30 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451 and a member of their combined Honor Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin G. and Estella (nee: Johnson) Lynam; wife, Jaqueline (nee: Bacon) Lynam; and sisters, Agnes and Eleanor; brothers, Martin G. Jr., William and David.

He is survived by his children, Colleen (Victor) Colon, Albert (Michele) Lynam Jr. and Diane (James) Daniels; sister, Mary Alice Hoffman; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and many loving step family members.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, January 31, 2014 at Elmwood Cemetery, 640 N. Ridge Rd. W., Lorain, OH 44053 (meet at cemetery) where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 30 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451. Mrs. Victoria A. "Vicki) (nee: DiLuciano) DeAngelis

Lorain- Victoria A. DeAngelis, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain, OH.

Vicki was born on October 8, 1928 in Lorain, OH where she was a lifelong resident. She married Dominic "Doc" DeAngelis on September 3, 1949. She graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1946. She was a homemaker and in her high school years she worked at Fashion Dry Cleaners in South Lorain. Vicki was a member of St. Peter's Church in Lorain and a lifelong member of Weight Watchers. She enjoyed walking, cooking and baking, gambling, traveling and especially spending time with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dominic DeAngelis of Lorain; children, Sam DeAngelis of Naples, FL, Mary Jo (Phil) Stammitti of Amherst, Carol (Paul) Salva of Lorain and Amy DeAngelis-Kendrick of Columbus; grandchildren, Valerie (Jeff) Tanaka, Heather Salva, Jeff Salva, Klaryssa Kendrick and Asia Seabrook; great granddaughter, Hailey Salva; brothers, Albert and Gabriel DiLuciano; step-grandchildren, Toni Stammitti, Monica Pluta, Tabitha (Jeremy) Fraysier, Paul Salva Jr., David Alger, Susan Alger, Brian Alger and Karen (Dennis) Derflinger; step-great grandchildren, Mackenzie Stammitti, Skyler Pluta, Courtney Koerner, Madison Alger, Connolly Alger, Cameron Alger, Will Alger, Logan Paul, Haley Derflinger and Riley Derflinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dominico and Candita (nee:Tardio) DiLuciano; two infant sisters, both named Sylvia in 1935 and 1940; son-in-law, John Toth; granddaughter, Jessica Toth; daughter-in-law, Nancy DeAngelis; brothers, Serafin and Ferdinand DiLuciano; and sister, Antoinette "Toni" Mullins.
