Jeanne M. Horan

Cleveland - Jeanne M. Horan, 58, formerly of Lorain, lost her short brave battle with cancer on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

She was born in Lorain, OH on November 10, 1957 to her loving parents, Edward J. and Eunice (nee: Heineman) Horan.

Jeanne graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1976 and continued her education graduating from University of Akron with a bachelor degree in 1980. She was most recently employed with Bollore Logistics Usa Inc. in Middleburg Heights in customer service concentrating on exporting freight. Jeanne previously had been employed with A.W. Fenton currently DHL for 25 years and Burrows for 8 years. She loved to travel, enjoyed attending and following Cleveland sports, and was a voracious reader. Jeanne was a great listener and only offered advice when asked. She was witty, kind and generous, and she was a dependable friend.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret "Peggy" Horan of Lorain; Aunt, Justine (nee: Heineman) Bianchi of Put-In-Bay; Uncle, Louis Heineman of Put-In-Bay; loving cousins; and great friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 4 - 8 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 9:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. Mary Church, 309 W. 7th Street, Lorain, OH, Fr. James Becherer, officiating. Francesca "Frankie" DeNardo

Oberlin - Francesca "Frankie" DeNardo, 41, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain surrounded by her loving family.

Frankie was born on May 31, 1975 in Lorain, OH. She graduated from Admiral King High School, Class of 1994 and she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences at Youngstown State University, class of 2009. Frankie served her internship at LGBT Community in Lakewood, Ohio and she was a Social Worker at Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services for five years. She was an avid reader and loved watching movies. Frankie enjoyed helping others, especially family, friends and anyone she could. Her passion was being a mother, a caregiver, a spiritual nurturer for her beloved children, Nicholas, Marissa and Benjamin.

She is survived by her three beloved children, Nicholas J. DeNardo, Marissa C. Garcia, and Benjamin E. Caraballo; father, Robert (Janet) Caraballo; sister, Victoria (Tristan) Carrier; brother, Rob (Molly) Caraballo; and love of her life, Kevin Harless.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Constance Barak; and paternal grandparents, Robertin and Clotilde Caraballo.

 A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Oberlin Early Childhood Center, 317 East College Street, Oberlin, OH 44074. Joseph S. Vitale

Avon Lake - Joseph S. Vitale, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.

He was born in Morgantown, WV. Joe graduated from Lorain High School and later volunteered for the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. His education continued at Kent State University with a B.Sc., M.Ed., Ed.S., and a J.D. from John Marshall School of Law. He worked for the Cleveland Clinic as a Senior Director for the office of Physician Recruitment. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Avon Lake, OH.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Connie (nee: Bertolami) Vitale; sons, Joseph (Jody) Vitale of Olmsted Falls, and Christopher J. (Candace) Vitale of Avon Lake; daughters, Suzanne (Mike) Varney of Columbia Station, and Michele N. (Frank) Caliendo of Arizona; grandchildren, Abigail and Matthew Varney, Hayley and Carly Vitale, Joseph and Juliet Caliendo, and Anthony Canterna.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Holy Spirit Parish, 410 Lear Road, Avon Lake, OH (meet at Church on Thursday). Christian burial services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Avon. Funeral arrangements and services by Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, Lorain.

Susan Wallace

Susan "Suzanne" Wallace passed away Sunday, July 10th with loved ones by her side. Suzanne lived for her 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She lived each day loving life and wanting to share that love with everyone. Before her passing Suzanne was a woman who was very passionate about life and who was so grateful to have such wonderful family and friends. Her vivacious personality will forever be missed but never forgotten. She is survived by her children Cindy (Ryan) Robertson, Lisa Mays, Scott (Georgia) Wallace, Dane (Alia) Wallace, and Clay (Cassie) Wallace along with her brother Michael Takacs. A memorial service will be held for her July 29th at 1pm, located at St Mary's Cemetery, Elyria. Following the burial service will be a celebration of life at 2:30pm - 4:30pm at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, Lorain (440) 244-1961.

Donald E. Rumpler

Lorain- Donald E. Rumpler, 92, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake.

Donald was born on January 27, 1924 in Lorain, Ohio where he resided all of his life. He graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1942B. Following High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and he was honorably discharged in 1945. On May 17, 1947 he married his love, Celine (Burns). Don was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain and enjoyed volunteering at the Free Clinic, R.S.V.P. and AARP where he served as President. He retired from the Toledo Lorain Fairport Dock Co.Don was a member of NARVRE, and Amherst Golden Ages. He served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Troop # 330. Don enjoyed casino bus trips and traveling and life with his family and friends.  

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jo (William) Rose of Avon Lake; grandchildren, Corey (Casie Behrend) Rose of Avon Lake, Allison (Paul) Clardy of Bay Village and Brittany (Chris) Appling of Westlake; great-grandchildren, Mark Behrend, Nathan and Isabelle Behrend-Rose: Madison and William Clardy: Olivia Appling; brother, Richard (Donna) Rumpler of Amherst; sisters, Laverne (Larry) Seeley and Marlene Rumpler-Lowry; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Celine Rumpler; parents, Lester and Mary Agnes (nee: Webber) Rumpler; son, Donald G. Rumpler; and brother, Harold J. Rumpler.

Albert DiLuciano


Albert DiLuciano passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of the morning on July 19, 2016.  His family provided support and comfort through his final days.  He had been fighting cancer for the last few years.

Albert resided in Lorain his entire life.  He was born on December 18, 1930, to Dominic and Candita (Tardio) DiLuciano.  He graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1949A. 

He met the love of his life, Marie Sofia, on his 16th birthday.  They married on February 18, 1950, at St. Peter Church in Lorain.  They remained inseparable until Marie's passing on December 11, 2009.  They were blessed with four children:  Sue (Joe) Bylica, Randy (Melodi) DiLuciano, Alice (James) Wiegand, and Russ DiLuciano (all of Lorain).   His blessings continued with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The grandchildren include Corey (Rachel) DiLuciano, Stacey (Tom) Dalton, Gena (Jeremy) Szakats-Cruz, Graig (Meghan) Szakats, Alyssa (Franklin Hernandez) Wiegand, David (Emily) Wiegand, Michael (Andrea) Bylica, Bryan Dall, and Scott Dall.  There are 17 and one on the way, great-grandchildren.

He worked numerous jobs and side jobs throughout the years to provide for his family.  His work at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake for more than 30 years provided him with the background and knowledge to begin a new business venture with Andrew Ditto and Gilbert Rothman.  His wife Marie aided in the development of the business aspects of V & A Process. The business manufactures and ships plastic welding rod throughout the world.  He was proud to have his family be a part of the business.

Albert was a religious man who attended daily Mass.  He belonged to St. Peter Church in Lorain and was a past member and treasurer of the Serra Club.  He also was a member of the Cosmopolitan Dance Club, Lorain Community Foundation, and was a generous supporter of many charitable organizations.

His interests included playing golf, and working puzzles and Sudoku.  He enjoyed his family and the traditions they established, such as making scrapelle (a family favorite dish), attending Sunday Mass followed by breakfast, and weekly pizza night.

God blessed Al with a second chance at love when he delivered a belated birthday card to Eleanor Shulsky.  They enjoyed almost six wonderful years of life together traveling, attending plays and concerts and visiting casinos.  Through his marriage, his family increased by four stepchildren -- Laura (Mike) Jordan, Jon (Cindy) Shulsky, Tom Shulsky, and Joe (Debbie) Shulsky.  There are also nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Eleanor (DeSantis) DiLuciano, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and step family.  He is also survived by his brother, Gabriel DiLuciano; brother-in-law, Dominic DeAngelis; and sister-in-law, Francis DiLuciano.

His wife Marie (Sofia) DiLuciano, preceded him in death along with his infant daughter Cynthia, his parents, brothers Serafin (Angela) DiLuciano and Ferdinand DiLuciano; and sisters, Victoria DeAngelis and Antoinette Mullins; and sister-in-law, Connie DiLuciano.

The family deeply appreciates the help and care provided by Hospice of the Western Reserve.  Their support, caring and dedication helped them cope during this very difficult time.

Mrs. Marie Rose Renker (nee:Balint)

Columbus- Marie Rose Renker (nee: Balint), 98, formerly of Elyria, OH, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 in Columbus, OH.

She was born in Lorain, OH on October 9, 1917 to her loving parents, John and Mary (nee: Kosash) BalintKerstner.

Marie resided in Lorain, Ohio for 82 years. She moved to Elyria in 1999 and lived on Augdon Drive for 7 years. Marie graduated from Clearview High School in 1935 and then went to the Oberlin School of Commerce. Following that she worked at the Thew Shovel in Lorain as a stenographer for 4 years. She also worked for James Renker and Son, Plumbing and Heating for 3 years.Marie married William Emory Renker in February of 1941.

Most recently,she has lived at Worthington Christian Village in Columbus, Ohio. Marie was an active participant in many activities there including chair volleyball, wii bowling, and bingo.

She was a volunteer receptionist at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lorain and at the St. Jude's Church flea market.  Marie was an avid golfer, rose gardener and fancier, and she loved baking cakes and decorating them for family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Renker; her sisters, Helen Surace and Ann Hanko; and by her brother, John Balint.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (nee: Renker) Landay, and her son, Kenneth Renker; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Sabel, Ted Casterline, Kerry Renker Green, and Stacey RenkerSandbrink. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Brisa Sabel, Elsie Sabel, Bill Green and Andy Green.

Mr. Robert J. Catalano

Lorain- Robert "Bob" Catalano, 73, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 12, 2016.

He was born in Lorain, OH on March 8, 1943 to his loving parents, Angelo and Elizabeth (nee: Balko) Catalano.

Bob resided all of his life in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1961. He owned and operated The Corner Restaurant and Lounge from 1985 until retirement in 2000. He took pride in his work and strived to offer a place, "Where Friends Meet Friends". The Corner was famous for their annual 50's and 60's parties. Bob was a member of the Lorain Elks Lodge 1301 for 52 years. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, enjoying watching the games and discussions with friends about his Browns team. He enjoyed spending time at his family cabin on Pelee Island, fishing, golfing and most of all spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving children, Chris (Tammy) Catalano of Arizona, Michael Catalano of Lorain, and Carrie Catalano of Arizona; grandchildren, Angelo, Isabella, and Owen Catalano; and sister, Loralee Cooke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Elizabeth.

Mr. Richard Brian Sullivan

Wellington- Richard Brian Sullivan, 61, died on June 10, 2016 in Lorain, OH.

Richard was born on August 6, 1954 in Astoria, NY, the son of the late John and Joan (nee: Hart) Sullivan.

He was a graduate of Foxborough High School, Foxborough, MA, Class of 1972.

He is survived by his son, Brian Sullivan of Norwood, MA; three brothers, John (Barbara) Sullivan of Cooperstown, NY, Thomas (Ngoc Pham) Sullivan of Woodbridge, VA, and James (Krishele Morris) Sullivan of Strasburg, VA; four sisters, Karen (Mark) Dost of Waterbury, CT, Linda (Daniel) Wasil of Wellington, OH, Laura Sullivan of Fitzgerald, GA, and Cynthia (Dwight) du Busc of Midland, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three sisters, Dianne Fobert, Carol Chapman, and Susan Sullivan.
