Lorain- Betty J. Henkle, 88,
passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph,
Lorain.
Betty was born in Renovo, PA on January 12, 1922 by her parents, William and Ida
(nee: Lintan) Heineman and lived in Lewistown,
PA until 1950. She then lived in Akron, OH and moved to Lorain, OH
six years ago.
Serving God was very important in her life. Her journey
touched many lives, young as well as old. She was a member of St. Peter Church,
Lorain, formerly a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua, Lorain and Immaculate
Heart of Mary in Cuyahoga Falls, OH where she worked for the funeral ministry
and helped prepare and organize funeral meals, rosary making, helped clean the
church, cared for the altar linens and she was a member of the Rosary and Altar
Society.
She is survived by her four children, Fr. Chuck Henkle,
O.F.M., Conv., Parochial Vicar for St. Peter, Lorain, OH, Dennis D. (Lee)
Henkle of Canal Fulton, OH, Barbara (Mike) Patrino of of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and
Kathleen (Phil) Vasile of New Braunfels, TX; three grandchildren, Michael
Patrino, Allyson Royce and Christopher Lynch; and three sisters, Louise Fisher,
Lillian Keppler and Jane Walters.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W.
Henkle.

Lorain- George Nick Hanzel, born December 25, 1944 passed away on Monday, March 29, 2010 at Cleveland Clinic Health Campus in Cleveland following a long illness.
George served in the United States Army from 1963-1966.He was stationed in Germany and served as a mechanic.George enjoyed his boat, fishing, working on all kinds of projects but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by three brothers, Melvin, Nick and Metro Hanzel all of Ohio; four sons, Michael Hanzel of Elyria, Frank Hanzel of Cleveland, Brian Hanzel of Lorain and George Jr. of Lorain; two daughters, Mandy Hanzel of South Carolina and Tina (John) Skarzynski of Lorain; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Stella Hanzel; and brother, Joseph Hanzel.

Lorain Gerald Wayne JT Toothman, 39, of Lorain, unexpectedly was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday March 25, 2010.
Jerry was born August 13, 1970 in Lorain, Ohio and spent most of his youth in Oberlin, Ohio.He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children.He was a talented stoneworker and enjoyed crafting creative designs with stone and block and working on his home.Jerry was also a wonderful singer and performer.He was most notably known for his membership of the local singing group, The Croonerz, which performed at numerous locations in Lorain County.He was a member of The Toga Party variety show at Pickwick and Frolic.With his voice, Jerry brought joy to all he knew.He enjoyed entertaining and bringing people happiness.
Survivors include his children, Christina Bekavek, 22 of Oakland, PA, Jeremiah Toothman, 12, and Dominic Toothman, 9, both of North Olmsted, Ohio;mother, Ruth Roberta Bobbie Toothman (Larry Buccilli), of Lorain, Ohio; brothers, Joseph Toothman of Lorain, Ohio, Tobias (Stacie) Toothman, of Amherst, Ohio, Lance Toothman of Pembroke Pines, Florida and Benjamin Toothman of Lorain, Ohio;sisters, Monica (Brad) Painter of Killeen, Texas and Cherish Hess of Lorain, Ohio;grandmother, Shirley Evans of Lorain, Ohio and grandfather, William Carrero of Rincon, Puerto Rico.He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lorain- Florence K. Tomasek (nee: Bereznay), 95, passed away peacefully on her journey to her Lord on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph Lorain Community Health Partners in Lorain, Ohio.
She was born September 14, 1914 in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1932 B. She married the late Eugene Tomasek in 1938 and made their home in Lorain. Florence was employed by Western Automatic in Elyria and Jane Lindsay School in Lorain. She loved to cook and bake many of her Hungarian recipes which were enjoyed by all her family. She moved and made her home in North Ridgeville and just loved her apartment at the Northridge Retirement Community where she made many friends and enjoyed the many activities offered by the retirement center. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing the piano, listening to big band music and spending time with her family. She was a big fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Browns and the Cavs.
She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua and was a member of the Marian Guild.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Pauline Tomasek of Sheffield Village; granddaughter, Nicole (Dale) Nix of North Ridgeville; grandsons, Michael (Cinthia) Tomasek of Windsor, CA and Aaron (Amy) Tomasek of Wooster; great grandchildren, Jennifer Franz, D.J. Oelbracht, Nathaniel and Gabrielle Nix, Mason, Bella, Izzy and Tycho Tomasek; sisters, Mrs. Ann Oray of Lorain, Mrs. Margaret Pekare of Lorain and Mrs. Kathleen (Alfred) Machovina of Grafton; brothers, John (Mildred) Bereznay of Lorain and Albert (Kathy) Bereznay of Elyria; sister-in-law, Helen Bereznay of Amherst and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband, Eugene in 1982; her son, Lawrence Larry Tomasek in 2000; infant daughter, Juanita Marie in 1946; her parents, Andrew (1962) and Elizabeth (1978) (nee:Hleba) Bereznay; brothers, Andrew Bereznay and Joseph Bereznay; sisters, Marie Nemeth (2003) and Elizabeth Trepoy (1987).

Lorain-Catherine Marie Zaworski, 50, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at her home following a sudden illness. Cathy was born on July 23, 1959 in Lorain, OH. A lifelong resident of Lorain, Cathy graduated from LorainCatholicHigh School and Bowling GreenStateUniversity.
Cathy was employed as a Sales Manager at Dixie Pipe, Inc. in Lorain and really enjoyed all of the people with whom she worked. Cathy was an avid fan of Cleveland and OhioState sports and was thrilled to be able to attend the 2010 Rose Bowl this year.
Cathy loved to golf and was a two-time champion of the annual Polish Open Golf Tournament. She was very close with and will be especially missed by her beloved nieces and nephews, Andrea, JJ, Megan, Zachary, Dawn and Haven. In addition, Cathy was a true animal lover and will be very missed by her canine companion, Maggie.
Cathy is survived by her three brothers, John, Mike and Rick Zaworski. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Richard A. and Geraldine; and her brother, Tommy Zaworski.

Lorain- Josephine M. Farkas (nee Leska), 96, passed away on March 19, 2010. She was born on April 6, 1913 in Birmingham, Ohio and moved to Lorain with her family when she wasthe age of one. Josephine attended school and church at NativityBVMChurch.
She worked at Haley's shoe store in downtown Lorain for many years, then the May Co., and Reidy Scanlan Furniture store and funeral home until her mid eighties.
Josephine resided at Good Samaritan Nursing Home for the last several years and enjoyed a very active social life playing cards, bingo, arts & crafts and reading.
She is survived by her son, Joseph R. Horvath of Amherst; her six grandchildren, Mike (Suzanne) Doyle of Chardon, Michele (Terry) Doyle McClintic of Florence, Stephen (Nancy) Doyle of Columbus, James Doyle of California, Kathleen (Rob) Janda Page of Lorain and Lisa Borsos Arellanes of Amherst; 7 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Kalman W. Farkas; parents,John Leska and Teodora Leska-Rogalski; daughter, Joanne M. Doyle; and her three sisters, Genevieve Gutoske, Irene E. Leska and Sophie Herman all of Lorain.

Lorain- Ivy Lucy Hansen (nee: Shreve), 53, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 24, 2010.
Lucy is the daughter of Ruby Shreve and the late Lewis Shreve of Morgantown, WV. She was born on March 21, 1956 in Elkins, WV.
Lucys passion was taking care of her beloved dogs, Zeke and Benny and her birds.
Lucy was a wonderful daughter, sister and companion. She is survived by her beloved mother, Ruby Shreve; her long time companion, Pedro Pete Crespo; great nephew, Christopher Shreve who resided with her for the past 22 years and whom she loved dearly; sisters, Jean (Victor) Propst of Morgantown, WV, Jenny (Larry) Powell of Morgantown, WV, Mary Casner of Lorain, Margaret Karnas of Lorain, Maxine (Mark) Dawson of Hazelton, WV and Kathy Johnson of Rochester, OH; brothers, Tom (Sharon Brandt- companion) Shreve of Ashland, OH, and Louie Morgantown, WV.; Aunt, Nina Tenney of Morgantown, WV; 11 nieces and 10 nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Lucy is preceded in death by her father, Lewis Shreve; paternal grandparents, Cecil and Ivy Shreve; her maternal grandparents, P. Johnson and Chloe Regester; and her special canine friend, Max.

Lorain Rose "Rosie" Marie Renick (nee, Cusumano), 83, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at AmherstHospital following a brief illness.
Rose was born in Meadville, PA on January 5, 1927. She graduated from MeadvilleHigh School in 1945. She married George Renick on June 19, 1948. She worked as a Dutchmaid Sales Rep and then spent 26 years at Higbees/Dillards before retiring. She was a member of St. VincentDePaulChurch and involved in the Altar and Rosary Society and Our Lady of Fatima Circle. She was a member of Clearview High School Booster Club.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing cards, cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was an avid Cleveland Browns and OhioState fan and was a friend to everyone she met.
Rose is survived by her husband, George; daughters, Patti (Dale) Betka of Lorain, Georgie (Dave) Smith of Amherst; sons, Ron Renick of Lorain, Randy Renick of Lorain and Rob (Leigh) Renick of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Harcula, Scott (Wendy) Lachman, Eric (Larissa) Betka, Kristen (Mark) Laymen, Valerie (Mike) Malumphy, Tracie (Jeff) Heuring, Matt Renick, Ashleigh Friedman and Ryan Renick; fourteen great grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Lorain- Vincent E. Espitia Jr., age 59, passed away on
Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Community Health Partners.
He was born on December 29, 1950 in Lorain, Ohio.Vincent was a life-long resident of Lorain graduating from SouthviewHigh School,
class of 1971. He was a member of Chicanos and was a Golden Gloves boxer.
Vincent worked as a welder at the Shipyard and P.C. Campana. He enjoyed
watching football, riding his motorcycle and loved spending time with his
family.
He is survived by his cherished daughter, Lindsey M. Meadows
of Lorain; loving and devoted companion, Debbie L. Meadows of Lorain; and
loving step-daughter, Jessica L. Meadows of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincente E. and
Laura (nee: Dominguez) Espitia.

Amherst- John L. DiGiando, 88, passed away on Wednesday,
January 20, 2010 at Community Health Partners in Lorain. John was born on February 18, 1921 in
Castiglione, Italy, a son of Nicola and Marianine
(nee: DOlimpio) DiGiandomenico. He graduated from LorainHigh School
in 1939. Following graduation, he enlisted as a Merchant Marine during WWII. John
worked 38 years with Prudential as a salesman and a sales manager and was an
active member of L.U.T.C. After retiring, he returned to work for 20 years
selling real estate.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst,
the Italian American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain,
the American Legion in Amherst, the Knights of
Columbus in Lorain;
and enjoyed meeting with the 14th
Street Gang. He enjoyed volunteering his time at
the YMCA in Lorain.
John was a proud father and grandfather.He genuinely cared about people and truly enjoyed getting his family and
friends together.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married on August 7,
1943, Theresa (nee: Capizzi); sons, John (Mary- nee: LaBella) DiGiando of
Lorain and Philip (Diane- nee: Malloy) of Montana; brother, Louis DiGiandomenico; 5
grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nicola and Marianine
DiGiandomenico; brother, Leonard DiGiando; and sister, Cecillia Bruno.
