Mrs. Doris Marotta

Doris Marotta (nee: Mitchell), age 81, passed away on January 26, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

Doris was born in Lorain, Ohio on January 16, 1932 to her loving parents, Charles and Irene (nee: Buckley) Mitchell. She graduated from Clearview High School, Class of 1950 and married her beloved husband, Angelo Marotta on January 9, 1954. 

Doris served as a teacher's Aide for 32 years in the Clearview Local School District and was

assistant clerk for Sheffield Township for 20 years.  She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church, Knights of Columbus and Oberlin Golf Club where she proudly won the Dr. Ray Romero Golf Outing. Doris enjoyed golfing and aerobic swimming.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Angelo Marotta of Amherst; children, Michael (Norma) Marotta, Angela (Patrick) Riley and Dean (Shari) Marotta; grandchildren: David and Yemoja Marotta, Joseph, John and Erin Riley, and Max and Cassandra Marotta; and great-grandson, Jonah Marotta.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Charlotte Horton, Joyce Caruso; and brothers, Jack and Michael Mitchell.

The family will receive friends at St. Vincent DePaul Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 on Tuesday, January 29th from 4-8 PM and Wednesday, January 30th from 9-10 AM. Mrs. Kathleen M. Olewinski

July 28, 1919 - January 23, 2013

Kathleen Marie Olewinski (Feeley), age 93, passed away at home January 23, 2013. Kathleen was born in Hamilton, Ontario July 28, 1919. She was a long standing member of Saint Mary�s Parish and a graduate of St Mary's High School. Pre-deceased by her husband Stanley, her son Jim, her daughter Kathleen Currie (Tom), daughter Susan Doyle (Terry) and granddaughter Eileen Doyle; survived by a daughter Mary Ann Rini (Warren), and son Larry Olewinski(Dee);fond grandmother of Peter Currie (Alyssa), Elizabeth Cruz(Carlos) and Janet Currie; Aaron  Rini (Juliana), BlaireLoczko (Andrew), and Drew Rini (Kristin); Shea Sullivan(Michael), Katelyn and Rylee Olewinski; fabulous great grandmother to CamrynLoczko as well as Elliot and Gwyneth Currie, and loving friend to many in Lorain and Chicago.

Kathleen was a strong supporter of Catholic education and the work of St. Mary's Parish. For many years she volunteered in a wide variety of parish activities.  She was the first recipient of the St. Mary Fidelitas Award, which honored her spirit of volunteering. She was an avid fan of the St. Mary'ssports program, Lorain Catholic, the Cleveland Indians, March Madness, and College football, and yes even Elyria Catholic, who was St. Mary's and Lorain Catholic's old arch rival.

Mr. Richard J. O'Connor


Sheffield Village-  Richard "Chick" O'Connor, 92, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born December 1, 1920 in Boston, MA, to his loving parents, Patrick J. and Mary M. (nee: Fox) O'Connor. Richard served in WWII in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate 2nd Class.  He was employed at B.F. Goodrich Chemical as a chemical operator for 32 years.  Richard was a member of St. Teresa of Avila and a life member of Amvets and VFW.  He enjoyed camping, gardening and was a fan of boxing and football.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy L. (Woodyard), sons: Timothy P. (Rebecca) of Sheffield Village, Terence R. (Earlene) of Lorain, Grandson: Patrick J. of Lorain and sister, Patricia A. Pitzer of Grafton, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents: brothers, Edward and Robert O'Connor; and sister, Marie Hoche.

Avon Lake - Marie L. Knoble, 64, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin, OH.

Marie was born in Amherst, Ohio, on October 22, 1948 to her loving parents, Joseph L.Knoble Jr. and Mary D. (nee: Buras)Knoble.

She graduated from Firelands High School, Class of 1966, and received her Associate Degree from Lorain County Community College. Marie retired from Lorain County Probation Department as Manager of the Forensics Lab. She was most recently employed with Bay Arts in Bay Village. She was a member of the Garden Club in Florida where she lived for 7 years. She loved photography, lifelong learning, art, kayaking, nature, bird-watching, watching the sunrise at the beach, traveling, sewing and quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her mother, Mary D.Knoble; daughter, Lisa M. (nee: Zink-Seaman) Ward; grandsons, Nathan E. and Jacob N. Ward; granddaughter, Elisabeth R. Ward; siblings: Laura (Mike) Borkowski, Joan (Norm) McNary, Marian (Bob) Kovach, Paul (Dawn) Knoble, Anne (Paul) Callahan, Joe (Tanya) Knoble, Tom (Antoinette) Knoble, and Kathy (Chuck) Rotuno, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Seaman: and father, Joseph L. Knoble Jr.

Mr. Donald Lough

Lorain- Donald N. Lough, 81, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

Donald was born on March 24, 1931 in Hundred, WV to his loving parents, Victor and Lucille (nee: Rex) Lough.

He graduated from Hundred High School, Class of 1949 and later enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Donald married Page (nee:Phillips) on October 15, 1950 and had three children together. He worked as a millwright for 22 years at Ford Motor Company in Avon Lake retiring in 1994. Donald was a member of Cornerstone Methodist Church in Elyria and Ocklawaha Methodist Church in Florida. He enjoyed playing golf and watching football.

He is survived by his loving wife of  62 years of marriage, Page (nee: Phillips) Lough of Lorain, children, Lisa Gibson of Lorain, Jan Cottrell of WV and Jay Lough of Lorain; grandchildren, Aaron, Julie, D.J., Nicole, Brittany, Christian and Adam; 13 great grandchildren; niece, Karen; and nephew, Dan.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patti Rae Conaway

Lorain- Jeanne C. Garcia, 81, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, OH.

Jeanne was born in Elyria, OH on January 22, 1931 to her loving parents, John and Helen A. (nee: Maslyk) Sadowski.

She married her beloved husband, Joseph J. Garcia on October 20, 1951. Jeanne worked at Lorain Community Hospital as an RN and the private practice of Dr. Peter Butrey's office as a nurse.  She was a member of St. Peter Church and a former member of the IAV and Moose Lodge of Lorain. Jeanne enjoyed shopping and she loved traveling to Florida's west coast and Laughlin, NV with her family.

She is survived by her loving son and caretaker, Bryan (Sandy) Garcia of Lorain; son, Jeffrey Garcia; daughter, Joan Jackson of Lorain; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph J. Garcia; parents, John and Helen; and brother, Richard Sadler.

Mr. Stephan Emil Budway

Lorain- Stephan E. Budway, 64, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at EMH in Elyria, OH.

Stephan was born in Toledo, OH on August 19, 1948 to his loving parents, Emil and Wanda (nee: Kleszcz) Budway.

He graduated from New Brunswick High School in New Jersey. Stephan enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967 and he was honorably discharged in 1970. He was a member of the DAV, AMVETS, VFW and American Legion. Stephan was very active with AA and he held a passion for helping others battle their addictions. He loved NASCAR, the show "Alf" and his black Labrador Retriever Shadow.

He is survived by his mother, Wanda Budway of Amherst, OH; siblings, Sandra (Tamosaitis) of Richland, WA, R.J. (Marti) Budway of Lorain, OH and Jon (Vilma) Budway of Cleveland, OH; daughters, Sandra and Jessica Anderson of Blaine, WA; former wife, Judy Budway of Dallas, GA; three grandchildren; and five nieces.

He is preceded in death by his father, Emil Budway; and his loyal friend, Shadow.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM, Friday, December 7, 2012 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273 (meet at main entrance of cemetery). Mr. Walter M. James

Lorain- Walter M. James, 74, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at Specialty Hospital of Lorain in Amherst, Ohio.

Walter was born to his loving parents, Wallice and Annie B. (nee: Jacobs) on January 1, 1938 in Kokomo, Mississippi.

Walter married Stella B. (nee: Olejko) on September 21, 1985 in Lorain, OH. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Lorain where he served as an usher. Walter worked at Ford Motor Co. in Lorain retiring in 1997 after 30 years of service as a quality control inspector. He was an avid fisherman and gardener, specializing in tomatoes and collard greens. He loved to barbeque and his specialty was barbeque ribs. Walter enjoyed making sweet potato pie for family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years of marriage, Stella B. James; children, Carolyn Allen of Bogalusa, LA, Ronald of Las Vegas, NV, Janice (Lafonza) Johnson of Elyria, OH, Walter M. James Jr. of Lorain, OH, Anita (Jon) Johansen of San Antonio, TX, Donna M. Shullick of Little Hocking, OH, Don Shullick of Vermilion, OH and Amy Osko of Lorain, OH; brothers, Raymond Paige of Milwaukee,WI and Major Paige of Watts, CA; and cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Shania.

Mrs. Audrey J. Giovannazzo

On October 28, 2012, Audrey J. (nee: Wilson) Giovannazzo, eighty-eight years old, peacefully went to be with God while surrounded by her loving family at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. Born and raised in Fitchville, Ohio, she graduated from New London High School in 1941, attended Oberlin School of Commerce in 1942 and was employed at Bendix in Elyria and The College of Mount St. Joseph, Cincinnati, Ohio, as a secretary.

Audrey married her beloved husband, Dominic J. Giovannazzo on November 27, 1948; they raised five children in Elyria, Ohio. Audrey and Dominic resided in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Cincinnati prior to retiring and returning to Elyria with their family. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed reading, dancing, music and helping Dominic in the kitchen.

Audrey was a parishioner of St. Mary Church, Elyria, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a member of the Senior Women Fellowship, Elyria.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Thelma (nee: Hunter) Wilson; an infant baby girl; and a grandchild, infant baby boy.

Audrey J. Giovannazzo is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Dominic J. Giovannazzo; children: John "Jack" (Mary Ann) Giovannazzo, Daniel (Roberta) Giovannazzo, Linda Laux, Mary Jo (Terry) Tonderys and David (Shawna) Giovannazzo; twelve grandchildren: Dominic, Frances "Francee", Vincent, Lauren, Brian, Elliot, Amanda, and Teddy Giovannazzo, Stephanie and Michael Laux, Julie (nee: Laux) Hornbeek, and John Tonderys; six great grand-children; and two sisters Madge Abahazi and Geraldine Child and many nieces and nephews.
