Mrs. Dolores A. Fries

Dolores A. Fries joined her loving husband in heaven on May 17, 2013. She was most recently a favored resident of St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs, Missouri. Prior to moving to Missouri to be near her family, Dolores enjoyed 82 years of her wonderful life as a resident of Lorain. Born on April 4, 1928 she was a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital, a past member of St. Vincent dePaul Society, a two-year past president of Senior Sociables and a member of the Marion Guild, all at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain, where she was a member.

Survivors include her son, Vernon J. Fries; and three grandchildren, Bryan, Cynthia, and Susan; five great grandchildren; and sisters, Sylvia Gonzalez and Geraldine Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon C. Fries (1988); father, Joseph Ziegler (1971); mother, Marie (nee: Yug) Ziegler (1932); step mother, Elsie Ziegler (1997); and sister, Gloria Lindsay (2012).

In lieu of flowers, Dolores preferred that contributions be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, OH 44052 or Clothe-A-Child of Ohio, P.O. Box 1202 Findlay, OH 45839.

Mrs. Celine M. Rumpler

Lorain- Celine M. (nee: Burns) Rumpler, 86, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

Celine was born on April 5, 1927 in Lorain, Ohio where she resided all of her life. She graduated from St. Mary�s Academy in Lorain, Class of 1945. On May 17, 1947 she married her love, Donald E. Rumpler. Celine was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain and enjoyed volunteering at the Free Clinic, AARP and RSVP. She was a member of NARVRE, Amherst Golden Ages, St. Johns Drill Team and Livewires. Celine enjoyed sewing, cake baking, casino bus trips and traveling and life with her family and friends.   

She is survived by her husband of 65 years of marriage, Donald E. Rumpler of Lorain; daughter, Mary Jo (William) Rose of Avon Lake; grandchildren, Corey Rose of Avon Lake, Allison (Paul) Clardy of Bay Village and Brittany (Chris) Appling of Westlake; great-grandson, Nathan Behrend-Rose; brother, John Burns; sisters, Mary Alice Wagner and Joan Pienoski; and many nieces and nephews.

 She is preceded in death by her son, Donald G. Rumpler; parents, James Dewey and Rosalind (nee: Halm) Burns; and brothers, James, Charles and David Burns.

Mrs. Helen R. Caruso

Lorain- Helen R. (nee: Garro) Caruso, 96, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, surrounded by family and friends at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

Helen was born on February 14, 1917 in Lorain, OH and was a life-long resident. She graduated from Lorain High School and married Albert J. Caruso on January 12, 1946 when he returned home from WWII. Helen devoted her life to her family as a homemaker and raised her two loving sons, Albert Jr. and Robert. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain since 1970 and Helen enjoyed volunteering with St. Joseph Homeless Shelter, Bingo, Food Bank and Hunger for Harvest. Her hobbies included traveling to Las Vegas twice a year, casino bus trips with friends and dining out.      

She is survived by her son, Robert C. Caruso; daughter-in-law, Judy Caruso; granddaughter, Adel; and loving nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Caruso Sr.; son, Albert J. Caruso Jr.; parents, Charles and Mary (nee: Gerace) Garro; and sister, Nancy Rizzo.

Mr. Salomon R. "Whitey" Gonzalez

Lorain- Salomon R. Gonzalez, 70, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic Health Campus in Cleveland, OH.

Salomon was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on March 13, 1943 and at age seven moved to Philadelphia, PA until 1979 when he moved to Lorain, OH until his passing. He was a prize fighter, feather weight, and called the �Million Dollar Baby� in Philadelphia, PA. On May 7th, 1968 he married Carmen L. (nee: Gonzalez). He worked at U.S. Steel as a pipe inspector and he enjoyed boxing, fishing, drawing, collecting art and knick-knacks of Indians and elephants, singing and writing and music and watching sports, especially the Cleveland Indians.

He is survived by his children, Onika (Hector) Rivera, Agueybano �Chino� Gonzalez, Tyesha M. Gonzalez and Jesus D. Gonzalez all of Lorain, OH; sisters, Tati, Carmen, Angela, Hilda and Evelyn Gonzalez; 9 grandchildren; Chyna; 18 nieces and nephews; and friend, previously married for 20 years, Carmen L. Gonzalez.

He is preceded in death by his parents, David R. and Emelia (nee: Ramos) Gonzalez; and infant son, Salomon Jr.

Mrs. Anne Jama

Lorain- Anne Jama (nee: Troatsy), 99, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH surrounded by her loving family.

Anne was born in Throop, PA on January 28, 1914. She worked for 35 years in the maternity ward at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain. She was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain and was an avid baker and bingo worker at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Lorain. Anne loved to dance, especially to polka music.  Her greatest love was spending personal time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Mariann Jama of Lorain; grandchildren, Thomas (Kelly) Jama and Timothy (Erica) Jama; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Kyle and Alexa.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Jama; parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Troatsy; brothers, Joseph and John; and sisters, Mary and Elizabeth.

A private visitation will be held at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home. The Jama family would like to invite family and friends to join them for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain.  The mass will be officiated by Fr. Mrs. Martha Louise Pavelko

Lorain- Martha Louise Pavelko (nee: Vaji), 81, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Louise was born in Grindstone, PA on September 30, 1931 and lived in Lorain for 43 years. She married her husband, Joe Pavelko on August 18, 1956. Louise was employed with Lorain City Schools for 25 years and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church where she was active with the Senior Socials, Funeral and Spaghetti chairperson, St. Vincent dePaul Society and the Marian Guild where she was awarded Marian Guild 2006 Woman of the Year. She enjoyed camping, family, friends and Church and was an avid golfer for years.

She is survived by her children, Steven (Renee) Pavelko of Wellington, OH, Christine (Jack-deceased) Brill of Avon Lake, OH and Sandra K. (Rick) Nielsen of LaGrange, OH; grandchildren, Jason and Becky Nielsen; step-grandchildren, Dustin (Ashley) and Derek (Lauren) Ross; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Colton Ross; and brother, John Vaji Jr.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years of marriage, Joe Pavelko; and her parents, John and Martha (nee: Senda) Vaji,  and son-in-law, Dr. Jack Brill.

Mrs. Rosina Danese

Avon- Rosina Danese (nee: DiFilippo), 93, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family.  

Rosina was born in Montenero Valcocchiara Italy on October 6, 1919. She married Clemente Danese on March 21, 1953 and immigrated to America in 1954 settling in Lorain, OH.

Faith and family were the cornerstones of her life. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Avon. For most of her life she attended daily Mass. She enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mario and Nancy Danese of Avon; daughter, Maria Cox of Westlake; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Rossana Danese and Daniel Haradem of Avon, with whom she made her home; grandchildren, Anna, Mark, and Matthew Danese; Marissa (David) Arundel; and Clare Haradem.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clemente Danese in 1987; her parents, Matteo and Maria (nee: Tornincasa) DiFilippo; brother, Vito DiFilippo; and son-in-law, Stephen Cox.

Mr. Alex Shlapack

Vermilion- Alex Shlapack, 90, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013, at Kingston Residence of Vermilion.

Alex was born in Marianna, PA on April 2, 1922, to his loving parents, Andy and Mary (nee: Sabo) Shlapack.

As a child, he moved with his family to Lorain, where he was raised. He graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1940-B. In World War II, Alex was a Tech Sergeant with the Army's 29th Infantry Division, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was in the American drive all the way across France. He stepped on a land mine in Germany and lost a leg. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. It was at an Army hospital that he met nurse, Ila Ruth Dodson, who, on May 31, 1945, became his wife. They were married 51 years before she passed away in 1996.

Alex was a third vesselman at Lorain's National Tube prior to World War II. After the war he returned to National Tube (later US Steel) and first worked on cranes and then as a clerk in the Bessemer and BOP, retiring after 43 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Jimmy) Repko of Amherst, Ohio and Denise (Harry Ong) Zyndorf of Lake Worth, Florida; sister, Olga Hambly of Vermilion, Ohio; and brothers, William (Joanne) Shlapack of Sheffield Lake, Ohio and Robert (Donna) Shlapak of Colorado; granddaughter, Melinda Repko of Canal Winchester, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Ruth Shlapack; brothers, Andrew Shlapak and Michael Shlapack; and his parents, Andy and Mary Shlapack.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Thursday, April 4, 2013, from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. Miss Mandy Rene'a Dillon


Mandy Rene'a Dillon, 31, of Lorain,  passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

Mandy was born in Lorain, OH on September 13, 1981 and she graduated from Marion L. Steele High School, Class of 1999. Following school she moved to Pensacola, Florida and recently moved home to Lorain. She was most recently working at Applebees in Lorain and previously she was employed with Tele-Tech and Pet Land.

Mandy will be remembered for her love of all people, her infectious smile and laugh, and most of all for the way she embraced life to the fullest.

She is survived by her father, Timothy R. Dillon: sister, Jennifer M. Lanning: paternal grandfather, James R. Dillon: step-mother, Rita Dillon: step-brother, Jonathan Kitchen: step-sister, Kristin Kitchen: and aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Richal (nee: Shelly) Reis: and maternal grandmother, Mabel Fanton: maternal grandfather, Richard Reis: and paternal grandmother, Phyllis Dillon.

Mrs. Ida Marie Naelitz

Ida (nee: Miller) Naelitz, 77, passed away on Monday, March 25,2013 at Center Ridge Health Campus, North Ridgeville.

Ida was born in Lorain on December 26, 1935 to her loving parents, James and Betty (nee: Bader) Miller. She attended Northern Institute of Cosmetology and married Robert Naelitz on May 28, 1952.

Ida was the owner/operator of "Ida Maries Hairport". She was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain and sang in the choir. She was a musician, artist, poet and entertained at area venues, locally and statewide since childhood such as Project Joy, Lorain Community Follies to mention a few.

She is survived by her children, Robert John Jr. (Gale), Debra (Dean) Costa, and Timothy (Carlyn): beloved grandchildren: sisters, Virginia (Harold) Dunfee and Mary (Joe) Brown: and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Naelitz: infant daughter, Anne Marie: parents, James and Betty Miller: and brothers, James and Tom Miller.
