Mrs. Viola M. DiFrancesco

Lorain- Viola M. DiFrancesco (nee: DiPasquale), 85, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013.

She was born on September 29, 1928 in Lorain where she resided for her entire life.

She graduated from Lorain High School in 1947. Viola was employed as a bookkeeper for the S.S. Kresge Company following high school. She married Arthur Steve DiFrancesco on February 11, 1950. After marriage, she was a homemaker and became involved with the Parent Teacher Association as a treasurer for Charleston Elementary School. She was a parent leader for  her son's Cub Scout troop. She also provided physical therapy for a neighborhood child with disabilities. Viola enjoyed baking for wedding and baby showers, weddings, christenings and holidays. She was particularly noted for her delicious fruitcakes and Italian pastries.

Viola was a member of St. Peter's Church of Lorain where she was involved in numerous activities. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Mission Group and Senior Citizens of the parish. Viola participated in the making of Baptismal bibs for the church. For two decades, she helped organize the rolling and cooking of the meatballs for the spaghetti dinners which served as fundraisers for the church.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Diane (David) Karolak of Lorain, Steven (Lisa) DiFrancesco of Oswego, Illinois, and Debra (James) Miadock of Lorain; along with 7 grandchildren and two great granddaughters; sisters, Margaret (Angelo Marino) DiFrancesco of Lorain and Virginia Moody of Amherst.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Arthur Steve DiFrancesco; parents, Emil and Anna (nee: Amato) DiPasquale; sisters, Ida Berni and Mary Lou Harcula.

Mrs. Imogene Kendrick

Columbus- Imogene "Jean" (nee: Ramey) Kendrick, 84, formerly of Lorain, OH, passed away in Columbus, OH on Friday, December 20, 2013.

Jean was born on March 6, 1929 in Portsmouth, OH. She lovingly raised two children with her husband and was a proud homemaker. Jean enjoyed crafts, ceramics, crocheting and listening to her bluegrass, country and gospel music. She had a heart of gold and met no strangers and helped everyone. She lived for her children and grandchildren and cherished her great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Bonita Kendrick with Jerry Ruzicka of Columbus, OH; loving son, Jim (Janie) Kendrick of Dacula, GA; granddaughter, Sara Kendrick of Dacula, GA; grandson, Benjamin (Vanessa) Kendrick of Arvada, CO; great-granddaughter, Haylie Kendrick; many nieces and nephews; best friends of 50 years, Ben and Isabel Sultzer; and many friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Kendrick; parents, Newet and Pearl (nee: Canter) Ramey; step-mother, Anny Ramey; sister, Mary Sowards; brother, Walter Ramey.

Mr. Michael E. Kish

Avon- Michael E. Kish, 54, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at his home.

Michael was born in North Royalton, OH on November 16, 1959 and he graduated from Brookside H.S., Class of 1978 and went on to Lorain County Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Police Science. On August 5, 1985, Michael married Cynthia (nee: Cendrosky) and they raised three children together. He was a Sergeant for Avon Police Department and he was a member of the FOP and OPBA. Michael enjoyed boating, fishing, water-skiing, playing pool, working on cars and spending time with family and friends.

 He is survived by his wife of 30 years of marriage, Cynthia Kish of Lorain; daughters, Allyson and Amanda Kish of Lorain; son, Aaron Kish of Lorain; sisters, Theresa Davis, Sharon Hornung and Susan Fleming; brothers, Edward Kish, John Fleming; mother-in law, Cis Cendrosky; brother-in-law, Tim Cendrosky; sister-in-law, Deborah Cendrosky; and many loving family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Jean (nee:Durkot) Kish; brother, Sam Fleming.

Mr. Timothy J. Smith

Lorain- Timothy J. Smith, 66, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 after a hard fought battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Tim was born in Lorain, OH on June 11, 1947. He was a graduate of Admiral King High School, Class of 1965. Following graduation, Tim enlisted in the United States Army and served his Country honorably for 3 years. Tim worked 30 years as an Engineer for Lake Terminal Railroad in Lorain with 22 of those years as the General Chairman of UTU Local 1391. He was a dedicated union leader willing to help out anyone in need. He enjoyed history, classic movies, listening to old time country and rock and roll and was an avid baseball fan. He was also a very dedicated family man and friend to many having enjoyed vacations and spending time with them.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of nearly 40 years, Cathy (nee:Oravec) Smith; sons, Timothy B. Smith and Kevin A. Smith of Lorain; granddaughter, Katie Smith; brothers, James J. Smith of Lorain and Daniel P. Smith /wife Brenda (nee:Diluciano) of Avon; mother-in-law, Julia Oravec; and many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Winifred (nee:Wise) Smith of Lorain

Karen was born in New London, OH on May 15, 1951 to her loving parents, Lloyd and Thelma (nee: Laux) Lunn.

She graduated from high school in Las Vegas, moved to Ohio and worked at Dan's Deli in Avon Lake, OH. Karen married Daniel on July 1, 1994. She loved to go camping, cooking and taking care of her family.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years of marriage, Daniel J. Cromer Sr.; children, Lisa Mowery, Brian Mowery, Daniel J. Cromer Jr., Angela Vasquez, Jennifer K. Dore and David A. Neely; and 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Thelma Cromer.

Mr. Anthony R. Stanziano

Amherst- Anthony R. Stanziano, 63, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at his home surrounded by his beloved wife and his loving family following an extended illness.

Tony was born in Lorain, OH on September 15, 1950 to his loving parents, Robert E. and Shirley Rae Ann (nee: Cendrosky) Stanziano.

He graduated from Admiral King High School, Class of 1968 and went on to earn a degree in electronics. Tony enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1970 as a helicopter electrician and was honorably discharged in 1973. He married Cindy Schneider on April 27, 1985 and worked for Kerr Beverage and Thunderbird Hills Golf Course. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Amherst, OH, a life member of VFW Post#1662 and a life member of Amvets Post#47. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, house-boating, bowling, playing poker and cribbage, reading, doing crossword puzzles and traveling with his beloved wife, family and friends.  

He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years of marriage, Cindy (nee: Schneider) Stanziano; sister, Rae Ann (Ron) Scott; brothers, Robert A. (Carol) and Paul (Cheri) Stanziano; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Schneider; and many loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Shirley Stanziano; father-in-law, Earl H. Schneider; maternal grandparents, Robert and Geraldine Cendrosky; paternal grandparents, Antonio and Maria Stanziano; and his beloved dog, Cleo.

Mr. Dominic James Giovannazzo, Ph.D.

On October 19, 2013, Dominic James Giovannazzo, 89, departed this life to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Audrey. 

Dominic was born on February 3, 1924, in Colp, Illinois. The family moved to Detroit, MI and then to Elyria in 1929. In his early years, he worked at his family's restaurant, The Blue Sky Inn, on East Bridge Street, in Elyria. 

During his senior year of high school, Dominic quit school the day after Pearl Harbor to enlist in the U.S. Navy and served aboard U.S.S. Palmer.  He returned to Elyria and graduated from Elyria High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and was a proud member of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity.  He married Audrey Wilson on November 27, 1948 in St. Mary Church; Dominic and Audrey had six children. 

Dominic managed the family restaurant for several years and also owned and operated Traicoff & Giovannazzo Motor Sales.  He earned a Masters of Science Degree in School Administration  and a Doctorate degree in Special Education, from Akron University.  He was employed in the Midview School District, Cleveland State University, Bloomsburg State University (PA), Moorhead State University (MN) and College of Mount St. Joseph (Cincinnatti).  While at the College of Mount St. Joseph, Dominic served as a professor and chairman of the Department of education. Additionally, he developed, implemented and directed the curriculum for the first graduate program in education at the Mount. Throughout his career Dominic published numerous papers for special education and learning disabilities. He retired from the academic arena in 1988 and returned to Elyria in 1992. 

Dominic was a passionate fan of The Ohio State University football program and was a season ticket holder since 1953.  He enjoyed gardening, golfing, pheasant hunting and reading Western novels by Louis Lamour.  He was active with Boy Scout Troop 133, St. Jude Church.  He loved cooking and cherished passing on his Italian recipes with family and was "known" for his sauce and meatballs.

Dominic was a member of St. Mary Parish, Elyria; the Knights of Columbus #774, the American Legion Post #12, Senior Fellowship Club, Italian American Veterans Post #1; Lorain and The Ohio State University Alumni Association. He was formerly a member of  St. Jude Parish.

Dominic is preceded in death by his parents: Anthony and Maria (nee Anastasio), wife: Audrey J. (nee Wilson), baby girl Giovannazzo, brothers: Joseph and Frank Jiovanazzo and sister: Catherine Gentile, and a grandchild: baby boy Giovannazzo.

Dominic is survived by sons: John  "Jack" (Mary Ann), Daniel (Roberta), David (Shawna); daughters: Linda Laux and Mary Jo (Terry) Tonderys; grandchildren: Dominic, Frances "Francee", Vincent, Lauren, Brian, Elliot, Amanda and Teddy Giovannazzo, John Dominic Tonderys and Michael and Stephanie Laux and Julie (Laux) Hornbeek; six great- grandchildren; brother: James Jiovanazzo; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Yolanda Donohue

Lorain- Yolanda Donohue (nee: Gonzalez), age 50, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Yolanda was born January 9, 1963 in Lorain, Ohio to Julia (nee: Segarra) and Camilo Gonzalez. A member of Sacred Heart Chapel, she graduated from Southview High School in 1981 and married Scot Donohue on June 5, 1999. Yolanda worked as a sales consultant for Value City Furniture for ten years.

Yolanda's greatest joy was being a devoted wife and mother. Her life revolved around creating a loving and nurturing environment for her son, something she was determined to provide until the very end. The love from her extended family of six siblings and her many nieces and nephews were the center of her strength and happiness that she treasured every day. Yolanda's kindness and generosity knew no bounds and she was always willing to help anyone in need. Her energetic spirit and contagious laughter will live on in the hearts and memories of her family and friends.

Yolanda is survived by her husband, Scot Donohue; son, Eric Donohue; mother, Julia Gonzalez; sisters, Betsy Gonzalez, Nilsa Gonzalez Ward, Evelyn Gonzalez, Vivian Gonzalez and Leticia Gonzalez Mills; and brother, Jesus Gonzalez.

Yolanda is preceded in death by her father, Camilo Gonzalez; and brother, William Gonzalez.

Shirley was born on August 19, 1934 in Connecticut and move to Lorain in 1981.

She graduated from Lorain Business College where she received her Associates Degree in Business Accounting. Shirley enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her five children, Cheryl "Brandy" (Shane) Arrowsmith of MA; Gary (Joyce) Skarzynski of MA; Christine (Claude) Blacksher of CT; John (Tina) Skarzynski of Lorain; and Kimberly (Paris) Lumpkin of Lorain; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents, George and Mae Schreck; sister, Dorothy Burgess; and brother, Robert Schreck.

Mrs. Josephine M.Taliano

Lorain- Josephine M. (nee: Bertolami) Taliano, 96, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home in Amherst, OH where she resided for the past year.

 Josephine was born to her loving parents, Carmello and Concetta (nee: Orlando) Bertolami on September 21, 1917 in Lorain, OH where she resided all of her life until moving to Amherst Manor in 2012.

 She graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1934-B. Josephine married Joseph "Tally" Taliano on October 22, 1936. She was a house wife and worked in retail at Ted Jacob's, Grant Drug Store and Tivoli Theater. Josephine was a life-long parishioner at St. Peter Church in Lorain, OH where she was active in a variety of ministries including Eucharistic Minister, RCIA, Church festival committees, Ladies Day and St. Francis Mission. She was an active member of the Lakeland Women's Club and served as secretary, director and community affairs chairperson. Josephine was a volunteer with St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain; Community Clinic in Safety Harbor, FL; Lorain Palace Theater; Lorain Historical Society; and trustee at the Lorain Public Library. Josephine and her husband traveled extensively for many years throughout Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and nearly every state in the United States. Josephine and "Tally" enjoyed the winter months at their home in Safety Harbor, FL for many years before her husband died in 1984. She enjoyed many crafts and hobbies including furniture refinishing, cake decorating, ceramics, painting and wine making. Josephine became quite proficient in handwriting analysis and assisted her son, Geno in investigations on several occasions.

 She is survived by her three children, Marlene Smith of Lothian, MD: James (Maggie) Taliano of George Town, TX: and Geno (Mary) Taliano of Amherst, OH; grandchildren, Jill (Robert) Sasso, Todd (Katherine) Taliano, Lisa Taliano, Michael (Megan) Taliano, Tony Taliano, Vance (Renate) Stewart and Kristin Stewart; great grandchildren, Amara Taliano, Tristan Taliano, Liam Taliano, Gavin Taliano, Kane Taliano, Anthony Taliano, Devin Goodrich, Daniel Sasso, Charlie Stewart and Elaine Stewart.

 She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Joseph; son-in-law, George Smith; and brother, Salvatore Bertolami.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, Friday, October 4, 2013 at St. Peter Church, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH, Fr. Craig M.
