Mrs. Mary Jane McConnell

Lorain- Mary Jane (nee: Busch ) McConnell, 90, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Arden Courts of Westlake surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 1, 1926 in Lorain, OH were she was a lifelong resident. Mary Jane graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1944. She married her loving, Joseph L. McConnell on February 19, 1949 and they raised ten children together. Mary Jane's life was dedicated to faith, family and friends. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Lorain where she was active in the church choir, Woman's Guild, and Children's Faith Formation. Mary Jane volunteered with BirthRight of Lorain County. 

She is survived by her loving children, Daniel (Ruthann) McConnell, Michael (Cheryl) McConnell, John McConnell, James (Ann) McConnell, Rosemary (Charlie) Albright, Judith (Paul-deceased) Zacharias, Kathleen McConnell and Frances McConnell; twenty-three grandchildren, ; 16 great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Daniel Bing and Keith Kapanke; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Leo and Mary Agnes (nee Hammond) Busch; husband, Joseph L. McConnell; daughters, Jane M. Bing and Ellen M. Kapanke; brothers, Frank, James, and Bernard Busch; and sister, Irene Busch.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at St. Mary Church, 309 W. 7th Street, Lorain, OH 44052, Fr. Daniel O. Divis, Pastor, officiating. Alice "Pat" Renker

Elyria - Alice "Pat" Renker (nee: Beckner), 84, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center with her family by her side.

Pat was born in Annamoriah, WV on November 27, 1932 to her loving parents, Grant and Ruth (nee: DePue) Beckner. She graduated from Calhaun County High School in Grantsville, West Virginia, Class of 1950. In 1953, she graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Pat worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain for thirteen years, then Lorain City Health Department, retiring after twenty-five years where she was a public health nurse and instrumental in starting the STD and Aids Clinic in Lorain County.

She was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, formerly Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church for sixty years. Pat served in many different leadership capacities especially in United Methodist Women (Ruth Circle) as a district officer and circle leader. She attended national meetings of U.M.W. in Kansas, Florida and Ohio. Pat was a member of Lorain Nightingales Club, a group of Registered Nurses who at some time in their career, were employed at the former St. Joseph Hospital (Ohio). She loved to travel and toured Russia in 1986 and China in 1987, studying public health issues in both countries. She also traveled to the Middle East several times, spending time with Palestinians families who lived on the West Bank. She was also a short-term missionary in Mexico and Dominican in the 1980's. Pat's real joy was cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. Pat lived in Lorain until retirement, then moved to Florida for ten years. She returned to Elyria in 2001 to be closer to family due to medical issues.    

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Gary) Wharton of Elyria, and Terry (Jim) Renker-Charlton of Hedgesville, WV; six grandchildren, David (Vanessa) Wharton, Tracy (Kevin) Gantz, Katie (Michael) Fulton, Karie (Alex) Demyan, Christina (Joe) Boudreau, and Kay Charlton; seven great grandchildren; and sister, Beulah (nee Beckner) Casto of Willard, OH.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard R. Renker; parents, Grant and Ruth Beckner; and brother, Gerald Beckner.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Chapel at Wesleyan Village, 807 West Avenue, Elyria, OH with Rev. Greg Sellers, officiating. The family will receive guests following the memorial service until 12:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH following services at Wesleyan Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcome to be made to Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, OH 44053. Rufus G. Evans

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that The Evans family announces the passing of Rufus G. Evans on December 21, 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio.  He passed away with grace and dignity and is at rest with our heavenly Father.  He was a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, dutiful brother, and loyal friend.

Rufus is survived by his children, Korvah Evans, Korboi Evans, and Cieneh Evans; grandchildren, Damon Evans, Devyn Evans, Dorian Evans, Harmony Evans, Olivia Evans, and Chloe Evans; and a host of cherished family members and friends.

Mrs. Antoinette Marsico

Lorain - Antoinette Marsico, 100, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at her home in Lorain with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Little Italy, Cleveland, OH on June 28, 1916 to her loving parents, James and Concetta (nee Romano) Romandio.

Antoinette moved to Lorain as a young child and she attended Clearview High School.

She worked as a waitress at a restaurant in the U.S. Steel Mill in Lorain where she met her beloved Anthony Marsico. They married on November 25, 1939 and they raised their daughter, Barbara together. She enjoyed volunteering her time and working with kindergarten children in the Sheffield and Sheffield Lake Schools. Antoinette was a wonderful cook and she enjoyed reading, working puzzles, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Marsico; sisters, Rose Mitock and Angeline Hicks; brother, Phillip (Janet) Alessandro; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years of marriage, Anthony Marsico; parents, James and Concetta Romandio; sisters, Nancy More, Concetta Szekely and Grace Alessandro; and brother, Brother Philip Alessandro.

Mr. Timothy Roger McDonnell

Timothy Roger McDonnell, 69, formerly of LaGrange, passed away in Lakeland, Florida on November 8, 2016, following a lengthy illness. He was born October 29, 1947 in Elyria, to Roger and

Agnes McDonnell, who preceded him in death in 1986 and 1996.

Tim was a lifelong resident of Elyria and LaGrange, before moving to Florida in 2014. He graduated from

Elyria Catholic High School, Class of 1965 and Lorain County Community College where he obtained degrees in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. He was an engineer for much of his career but in his earlier years he worked for the Railroad, the U.S. Steel Mill and the American Shipbuilding Company. He achieved lifelong membership as a certified manufacturing engineer by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

His hobbies included farming, gardening and wood working. He was known for his incredible wood

working ability and shared his talent with family and friends. He crafted a variety of projects including

cradles for his grandchildren, each one unique and beautiful. In his younger days, he was a proud Eagle

Scout, volunteered as a firefighter, raised cows and sheep, and owned a goat dairy. He had a great sense of humor and was incredibly devoted to his family and friends. 

Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Diane McDonnell (nee Elgin); children, Kyle (Becky) McDonnell, Ryan McDonnell, Kathleen Frey and former son-in-law, Adam Frey, Tom (Jodi) McDonnell, Nicholas (Jennifer) Williamson, Bridgette (Brian) Wolfensperger, and Jenna (Josh) Campbell; twelve grandchildren, Morgan, Miranda: Kayler, Parker: Emma, Taylor and Henry: Owen and Lauren: Leah and Luke: and Maeve. He also leaves behind two sisters, Madalyn (Gabe) Torres and Diane (Steve) Kline, as well as nieces and nephews.

Theodore "Teddy" Giovannazzo

Elyria - Theodore "Teddy" Giovannazzo, 21, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016.  

He was born in Elyria, OH to his loving parents, David and Shawna (nee Bregen) Giovannazzo. 

Teddy lived in Elyria graduating from St. Jude School and Elyria Catholic High School. Teddy was taking classes at Lorain County Community College while employed at Alco Manufacturing.  

Teddy spent his free time fishing, hunting, and golfing. Growing up he spent Saturdays with his family cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes. Teddy was extremely generous to help or lend a hand to his family and friends. He always greeted everyone with a smile and he was well known for his witty sense of humor. Teddy possessed many remarkable qualities that family and friends adored: humble, generous, respectful, genuine, family- oriented, and kind- hearted. 

Teddy is survived by his parents, David and Shawna (nee Bregen) Giovannazzo; sister, Amanda Giovannazzo; grandmother, Gertrude Bregen; pet companion, Gia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

Teddy is preceded in death by his grandparents, Dominic and Audrey Giovannazzo; and Theodore Bregen.

Mr. Robert "Bob" Markovich

Sheffield Lake - Robert D. Markovich, 78, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Republic, PA on July 17, 1938.

Bob graduated from Redstone High School, Class of 1956 and he was 1st team Pennsylvania for his efforts as right guard and nose tackle for the Black Hawks football program. He married Jean (nee Guerrieri) on October 31, 1959 and they raised four loving children. Bob worked as an inspector at Ford Motor Company in Lorain where he retired after 33 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Sheffield Lake. Bob enjoyed gardening around the Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society and named Man of the Year twice. He was a sports enthusiast and helped establish the CYO program at St. Thomas. Bob enjoyed coaching basketball, baseball, football and his passion was coaching Jr football for 15 years. Bob also enjoyed riding his bicycle, walking, gardening, working his crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family and cherished grandchildren. He was claimed with ALS seven years earlier and was supported every step of the way by his loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years of marriage, Jean Markovich of Sheffield Lake; children, Robert (Nancy) Markovich of Sheffield Village, Robin Markovich (Clint Adams) and Jaime Markovich (Tommy Brunson) of Sheffield Lake; son-in-law, Christopher Pranckunas I of Sheffield Lake; grandsons, Luke (Tiffany), Caleb (Emily), Zac, and Christopher II; granddaughters, Lyndy, Madelaine, Alyssa, and Beth (Kathy); sisters, Margaret Markovich and Mary Durigon;  and several nieces and nephews family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Traci Pranckunas in 2012; parents, Charles and Barbara Markovich; brothers, James and Richard Markovich; and nephew, Kristopher Markovich.

Bob's family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff at the Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital for their compassion and care for Bob.

Elyria - Mark L. Herring, 52, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.

Glenna Rose Hardway

Lorain- Glenna Rose Hardway (nee Cromwell), 84, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Rae-Ann Nursing Home in Westlake, OH.

Glenna was born on December 9, 1931 in Lorain, OH to her loving parents, George E. and Eunice L. (nee Briggs) Cromwell.

She was a graduate of Clearview High School, Class of 1949. She married her beloved husband, Charles Hardway on August 4, 1950. They raised 4 loving children together. Glenna worked for the Central Trust Bank in Lorain for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria, OH, where she was a secretary for many years. Glenna enjoyed baking, quilting, gardening, listening to music, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granchildren.

She is survived by her loving children, Debby (William) Fisk of Norwalk, OH, Charles M. (Christina [nee Nikolic]) Hardway of Lorain, OH, Robert A. (Karen) Hardway of Wakeman, OH and Michelle E. (Raymond) Paynter of Elyria, OH; brother, David T. (Louise) Cromwell; sister, Judith A. (Delbert) Canter; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years of marriage, Charles L. Hardway in 2011; parents, George E. and Eunice (nee Briggs) Cromwell.

Mr. Charles Cogdell

Amherst - Charles W. Cogdell, 78, beloved husband and father, passed away on November 17, 2016, peacefully in his sleep, at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake, OH.

Chuck was born in Lorain, OH on October 26, 1938 to his loving parents, Victor and Margaret (nee Gammie) Cogdell.

He was a proud graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1956-B. Following High School, Chuck attended Miami University before enlisting in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He returned home and married his love, Donna (nee Bliss) on November 11, 1961 and they raised three children, Vicki, Carri and Doug. Chuck had a long and successful career, working at Gross Plumbing and Hume Construction. He enjoyed drawing and creating paintings, traveling with his wife, following Cleveland sports teams, fishing and enjoying the outdoors, watching his grandchildren play sports, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Cogdell; children, Carri (William Mroz) Schultz; Doug (Mary) Cogdell; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Thomas in 2014; his parents, Victor and Margaret Cogdell; and sister, Elizabeth Neverman.
