Mr. Joseph Phillips

LORAIN - Joseph Phillips, 87, was called home on Sunday, September 13, 2015 following a brief illness. His loving family was with him at his residence at his time of peaceful passing.

Joseph was born on July 7, 1928 in Kulpmont, PA following the immigration of his parents from Hungary. He attended Lorain High School and then served in the US Army 509th Air Base Group from August 1946 until August 1949 as an electrician/radio mechanic. He married his beloved wife Marilyn (nee: Fradley) on April 23, 1955 raising three children together. Joseph worked at the BF Goodrich Chemical Company in Avon Lake for 41 years. He was employed as a Senior Technician in Organic Chemistry and specialized in plastic research and development. He retired from Goodrich in 1993.

He was a parishioner of St. Peter Parish in Lorain and a member of VFW and American Legion. An avid ballroom dancer - he and is wife Marilyn took lessons at Mitzi and Ed Waring's Dance Studio, North Olmsted, and became very proficient dancers. Performing for nursing home patrons and in dance marathons for Ohio Cancer Research Associates were just a couple of functions Joseph loved doing with Marilyn for a good part of his life.

He enjoyed cruises, world travel, spending time with his family and working around the house as well as helping his children with anything - just ask him and he would get it done! He was an all around handyman extraordinaire. He could fix just about anything - scratch that - he could fix anything!

Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marilyn Phillips; loving children, Joseph B. Phillips; Brenda L. Phillips and Matthew T. (Barbara, Billy and Brandon Mitchell) Phillips; grandchildren, Nicole, Samantha, Jacob Phillips, Jonathan and Alissa Van Dress; sister, Esther Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Albert Phillips; parents, Bert and Esther (nee: Pandy) Phillips; sisters, Julia Sparr, Mary Wright and Betty Kennedy; and brothers, Steve, Bert, John, Alex and Frank Phillips.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2150 Broadway, Lorain (440) 244-1961 on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:50 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain, Fr. Gerald J. Keller, officiating. Private Christian burial services will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH where military honors will be performed by the United States Air Force. Mrs. Irene Stevens

Lorain- Irene Stevens (nee:Williams), 90, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain, OH.

She was born in Grantsville, WV on November 19, 1924. Irene graduated from Calhoun High School, Class of 1942. Following High School, she moved to the Akron area where she met her husband Clifford whom she married on November 5, 1945 and together they moved to Lorain and started their family raising four boys. She was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, a proud homemaker and a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain for 25 years. Irene enjoyed traveling to her home state of West Virginia, spending time with family, friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she was an avid gardener.

She is survived by her four sons, Dan, Jerry, Bruce and Ron Stevens; grandchildren, Aja, Andrea, Joy, Bobby and Hayden; great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Costa, Marco, Angel, Eden Irene, Xander and Xavier; nieces, nephews and special nephew, Forest "Bud" Bower.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Clifford Stevens in 2004; parents, Jesse and Mary Williams; sisters, Millie, Opal and Gladys; and brothers, Albert, Alvie, Holly and Hale.

Lorain- Terrance"Terry" Gauna, 50, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at his home in Lorain, OH.

He was born on March 31, 1965 in Lorain, OH where he was a lifelong resident.

Terry attended Admiral King High School from 1980 - 1983 and he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and listening to music.

He is survived by his mother, Darlene (nee: Smith) Gauna; children, Latrice, Terrance Jr., Danielle and Allen-Michael Cavin; sisters, Theresa and Joann Gauna; brother, Antonio Gauna Jr.; 8 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Antonio Gauna Sr.; and siblings, Lisa, Antonette and Miguel.

Mrs. Dolores Trifiletti

Lorain- Dolores J. (nee: Krek) Trifiletti, 83, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, OH.

She was born in Lorain on November 16, 1931 and graduated from Lorain High School. Dolores was married to Joseph C. Trifiletti on May 25, 1963. She worked at J.F. Zook Company and was a loving homemaker. Dolores was a member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain and enjoyed volunteering with the Black River Historical Society.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years of marriage, Joseph C. Trifiletti; loving sons, James and Joseph (Shannon) Trifiletti; cherished grandsons, Michael, Joseph and Christopher Trifiletti; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Johanna (nee: Bucher) Krek; brothers, Richard Krek and twin infant brothers.

Mr. Wayne Hogrefe

Lorain-Wayne Hogrefe, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Age to Perfection Adult Care Home in Lorain, OH.

Wayne was born in Amherst, Ohio on July 18, 1926, to his loving parents, Fred and Frieda (nee: Kunkle) Hogrefe. He attended Amherst schools and resided in Amherst until 1945 when he moved to Lorain for the duration of his life. Wayne married Olga (nee: DeLeonardis) on July 5, 1945 and they started their lives together raising three children. Wayne and his wife Olga met and worked together at Crystal Clear Cleaners prior to starting their own business, Wayne Cleaners in Lorain, OH. He was a member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, Lorain County Serra Club, German American Club, and several Packard car clubs. Wayne, with his wife, enjoyed attending numerous Packard car events and was honored to receive the Man of the Year Award by St. Peter's Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Olga Hogrefe; loving daughters, Carol (Richard) Schafer and Jayne (Chris) Werbylo; loving son, Wayne Hogrefe; cherished grandchildren, Jackie Schafer, Casey (Carlton) Phi, Lindsay (Eli) Linger, Shannon (Ben) Colacchia, and Thomas (Laura) Schafer; adored great-grandchildren, Matteo Colacchia, Dominic Colacchia, Addisyn Schafer and two "in the oven"; brothers, Howard (Betty) Hogrefe, Carl (Linda) Hogrefe, and Ken (Gwen) Hogrefe; and brother-in-law, Howard Pressnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Frieda Hogrefe; brothers, Paul and Melvin Hogrefe; sisters, Ruth Weiland and Marilyn Pressnell; and daughter-in-law, Susan Kelly Hogrefe.

Mrs. Pauline DeBerry

Lorain- Pauline DeBerry (nee: Cramer), 76, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at her home in Lorain, OH surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Terra Alta, WV on August 19, 1938 growing up on a farm on Saltlick in WV. Pauline was married on March 7, 1955 to Del DeBerry and they moved to Lorain in the early 1960's. She was a homemaker, a loving wife and mother and worked at Shields Nursing Home, WT Grants, Meyer Goldberg, Convenient Food Mart and retired from Revco. Pauline was very involved with her family and loved spending time with her friends. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and gift wrapping. She was very thoughtful, caring and shared her talents with her family and friends. She was a member of the Italian American Veterans Post 1and Vermilion VFW Post 7576.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Larry) Thomas and Teri (John) Stout; granddaughter-daughter, Rhuie Milliner; many grandchildren and great-granchildren; siblings, Rex (Joyce-deceased) Cramer, Evelyn (Raymond-deceased) Waldeck, Freda (Donnie) Hileman and Sharon (John) Nine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eva (nee: Taylor) Cramer; husband, DelDeBerry; daughter, Nancy Johnson; son, Bradley DeBerry; and brother, Glenn Cramer.

Mrs. Michela Bertolami

Avon Lake- Michela (nee: Orlando) Bertolami, 94, formerly of Lorain, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 surrounded by her family at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, OH.

She was born on July 30, 1921 in Novara, Italy to her loving parents, Nicola and Concetta (nee:Raccuia) Orlando.

Michela came to America with her mother at the age of nine to join her father whom was already here in America. She graduated from Wadsworth High School and married her love, Salvatore Bertolami on November 6, 1943. Michela was a homemaker, raising her two children and was a member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain, OH. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Connie (Joseph) Vitale and Dr. Charles (Linda) Bertolami; grandchildren, Christopher (Candace) Vitale, Michele (Frank) Caliendo, Michela Denoncourt and Joseph (Dr. Jennifer) Bertolami; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Juliet Caliendo; step great-grandson, Anthony "Rocco"Canterna; sisters, Vi (Joseph) Torre and Jeanne (Larry-deceased) Dean; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years of marriage, Salvatore; parents, Nicola and Concetta Orlando; and infant brother, Joseph Orlando.

Mrs. Clara Miraldi

Lorain- Clara C. (nee: DiFilippo) Miraldi, 95, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Denise's Adult Home Care in Lorain, OH.

Clara was born in Montenero, Italy on May 28, 1920 to her loving parents, Federico and Giuliarosa (nee: Mannarelli) DiFilippo. As a young adult, she came to America and resided in Lorain for the duration of her life.

She married Pasquale Miraldi on June 22, 1946. Clara worked at Dalton Industries in Lorain, OH and spent all of her married life as a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter Church in Lorain, OH.

She is survived by her nieces, Filomena (Lawrence) Orosz, Rosa (Joe Todaro) Paulus and Julimarie (Mark) Mishak; and nephews, Teodoro (Rita) Raponi, Quintino A. DiFilippo, Frank (Ana) DiFilippo, Fred (Marla) DiFilippo and Italo (Virginia) DiMarco.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Federico and Giuliarosa DiFilippo; husband, Pasquale "Patsy" Miraldi; brothers, Filomeno and Quintino DiFilippo; sisters, Filomena DiFilippo, Augusta Raponi and Bice DiMarco; and nephew, Epifanio DiMarco.

Mr. Joseph A. Schwarz Sr.

Lorain- Joseph A. Schwarz Sr., 75, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, OH surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 9, 1939 in Lorain, OH. Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962, serving two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1973. He retired from the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the Knights of St. John, Commandery 281 and was awarded Knight of the year.

He is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Sunny (nee: Chung) Schwarz; children, Jenny (Dan) King and Joseph A. Schwarz Jr; brother, George Schwarz; and grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Addison, Aubrey and Hannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Arvella (nee: Herman) Schwarz; siblings, James McCoy, Shirley Russo, Myron McCoy, Marvin Schwarz, Raymond Schwarz, Helen Jackson, Wilma Bennet, Marilyn Pine and William Schwarz.

Mr. John L. Schreck

Lorain- John L. Schreck, 73, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Mercy New Life Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Hungary on December 7, 1941. He migrated to Germany as a young boy and came to the United States in 1956. John retired from  Sears Logistical Services after 40 years of service. He married his loving wife, Elizabeth (nee: Nagy) on June 19, 1993. John was a member of St. Peter's Church in Lorain, the Amvets in Sheffield Lake and the American Legion in Sheffield Lake. He enjoyed golfing, and he loved music and attending concerts. 

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Elizabeth Schreck; brother, Sebastian Schreck; sister, Therese Fekete; children, John R. Schreck, Sue (Mike) Taylor and Cheryl Kirk; step-children, Amanda Husty, Kellie Domke, Marti Budway Domke, Kim Williams and Kevin Williams; ten grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresia (nee: Kuhl) Schreck; brother, Josef Schreck; and his dog, Snoopy.
