Alice "Pat" Renker

Elyria - Alice "Pat" Renker (nee: Beckner), 84, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center with her family by her side.

She graduated from Calhaun County High School in Grantsville, West Virginia, Class of 1950. In 1953, she graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Pat worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain for thirteen years, then Lorain City Health Department, retiring after twenty-five years where she was a public health nurse and instrumental in starting the STD and Aids Clinic in Lorain County.

She was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, formerly Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church for sixty years. Pat served in many different leadership capacities especially in United Methodist Women (Ruth Circle) as a district officer and circle leader. She attended national meetings of U.M.W. in Kansas, Florida and Ohio. Pat was a member of Lorain Nightingales Club, a group of Registered Nurses who at some time in their career, were employed at the former St. Joseph Hospital (Ohio). She also traveled to the Middle East several times, spending time with Palestinians families who lived on the West Bank. She was also a short-term missionary in Mexico and Dominican in the 1980's. Pat's real joy was cooking and entertaining for her family and friends. Pat lived in Lorain until retirement, then moved to Florida for ten years. She returned to Elyria in 2001 to be closer to family due to medical issues.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard R. Renker; parents, Grant and Ruth Beckner; and brother, Gerald Beckner.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Chapel at Wesleyan Village, 807 West Avenue, Elyria, OH with Rev. Greg Sellers, officiating. Pat was a very special cousin. As a child my parents took us to visit Pat and her family many times. We always felt such love and warmth in their home. We remember attending church services with Pat and her family often. We are praying for her daughters and their families at this time. May God bless you. Paul and Bessie Beckner walker WV
