Lorain- Juan J. Gonzalez, 88, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011. He was born on August 28, 1922 to Dionesio & Aramita Cuevas Gonzalez in Lares, Puerto Rico. He married the love of his life, Lucy V. (nee:Arzuaga) on December 20, 1951. Together they had three children, twins, Juan J. Junior and Jose Luis Joey and youngest son, Deacon Edgar.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Ivette; and his parents and his siblings, Eusebio, Maria, Isabel, Otilia, and Adela.
He is survived by his only living sister, Maria Luisa Velez and brother-in-law, Ernesto Sanabria of Elyria; daughter-in-laws, Margaret (nee:Solis) and Christine (nee:Martin); seven grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Betty Ortiz of Cleveland and Carmen M. Lozada of Carolina, Puerto Rico, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Juan served in the US Army, 75th Infantry, receiving various medals for his service to our country. He moved from Puerto Rico in 1948 and has been a life-long resident of Lorain.
His greatest love beside his wife and family was ministering the Word of God to many. He was a bible scholar and read the scriptures every day. Juan was known for his love of writing and reciting poetry. He also composed many songs where he sang and played them on his guitar. Juan also loved wood working and made many rocking horses and toys that he gave as gifts. He will be sadly missed by many that loved him.

Lorain- Marcella Rose Belch (nee: Dominguez), 84, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at her home in Lorain, OH.
She was born in Lorain, OH on September 6, 1926 and was a lifelong resident of Lorain. She was a past member of St. Cyril Methodius Church in Lorain. She attended Lorain High School and worked at U.S. Steel and Winko-Matic. She loved her family, especially her two granddaughters and she loved to read.
She is survived by her son, Frederic Belch; daughters, Rita Ann Belch and Bernadette (Jeff) Harned; granddaughters, Erica (Ed) Nicole Kelly; Marissa Christine Harned; her great granddaughter, Mia Rose Kelly; and sister, Eleanor Gonzalez.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred Belch; sisters, Frances Margie Maloy and Laura Espitia; and brothers, Frank, Joseph, Lupe, Martin and Manuel Dominguez.

Elyria- Richard R. Renker, 83, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011 at his home in Elyria, OH.
Richard was born on July 2, 1927 in Lorain, OH to his parents, James and Bertha (nee: Zboray) Renker.
Richard was born and resided most of his life in Lorain, OH. He worked for his father in the family business, Renker Plumbing and later worked for U.S. Steel. He retired from Lorain County Highway Department. Following retirement he moved and resided in Palm Harbor, FL for ten years, returning to Elyria, OH in 2001 to be closer to his family. He was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church (formerly Delaware Ave., UMC) in Lorain for over 30 years. He loved living close to Lake Erie, spending time on Florida beaches, cruises but his true love was his family. He loved living so close to Lake Erie and spending time on beaches in Florida. He had a long history of heart problems and was one of the early open heart patients at the Cleveland Clinic in 1970. He was a founding member of the Lorain County Zipper Club for open heart surgery patients.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alice Pat Renker; daughters, Sherry (Gary) Wharton of Elyria, OH and Terry (Jim) Renker-Charlton of Manassas, VA; six grandchildren, Christina Boudreau, Kay Charlton, David Wharton, Tracy Gantz, Katie Fulton and Karie Wharton; and two great grandchildren, Kylie Wharton and Cameron Gantz.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Renker; sister, Alice Amato; brother, William Renker; and several aunts, uncles, close relatives and friends.

Lorain- Laura J. Schumaker (nee: Moody), 80, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain.
Laura was born in Amherst, Ohio on February 12, 1930 to her parents, Allen and Fayona (nee: Nutter) Moody. She graduated from Amherst High School and went on to Lorain Business College. Laura married Robert Schumaker on August 21, 1953. She worked at Troxel, Lorain Phone Co. and worked in bookkeeping/payroll for Comet Management and Majestic Molding and was involved in Real Estate and Real Estate Appraising. Laura was a member of the Lorain Senior Center where she enjoyed volunteering and also enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years of marriage, Robert W. Schumaker; two daughters, Susan (Mark) Boyle and Nancy (Paul) Wise; and son, David (Gail) Schumaker
She is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Fayona Moody.

Born in Slovenia, to Joze (deceased) & Amalija (Jarc) Campa. At age 9 moved to Cleveland area, married 1988 and moved to North Olmsted. Graduated St. Joseph HS (1978), CSU (1983) & P.E. (1991). Worked at Halex Corp & co-owned Cone Zone Grill. Enjoyed sports and spending time with his children. Member of St. Richards Church & Fagowee Ski Club. Survived by beloved wife Lucy (Sobieraj), sons Andrew & Zachary, mother Amalija, sister Jo Randlett (Jeffrey), uncle Anthony and uncle and friend to many.

Elyria - Betty J. (nee: Dantry) Callahan, 77, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at her home.
Betty was born in Lorain, Ohio on May 20, 1933 to her parents, Ralph and Mary (nee: Biro) Dantry.
She graduated from Lorain High School, class of 1951-B and worked for ten years at The Lorain Journal in the circulation department, five years at Open Pantry as a cashier, and eleven years at Rini-Rego as a cashier. Betty was a member of St. Peter Church in Lorain. She enjoyed casinos, garage sales, music, dancing and spending time in Las Vegas.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Christine Callahan of Chicago, IL. and Cathleen (Earl Hartman) Callahan of North Ridgeville, OH; sister, Shirley Price of Lorain, OH; granddaughter, Sara Callahan of Lorain, OH; daughter-in-law, Gina Callahan of Lorain, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Terrence K. Callahan in 2003; and parents, Ralph and Mary Dantry.

She was married to her husband, James R. Howard on May 12, 1957. She was an active member with St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Sheffield Lake and the Fraternal Order of Police. She was a homemaker, raising her two loving children.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years of marriage, James R. Howard Sr.; son, James R. Howard II of Sheffield Lake, OH; daughter, Renee L. (Howard) Woods of Caledonia, MI; granddaughter, Jennifer Nicole Woods of Harrisburg, PA; and sister, Ann Drechsler of Lorain, OH;

Florence A. (nee: Byrd) Oswalt
Lorain- Florence A. (nee: Byrd) Oswalt, 77, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 after enduring a long illness. She was born on September 19, 1933 to Corbet Byrd and Estelle (nee: Edwards) Byrd in Barren County, KY. At the age of 17, she met and married, James V. Young. After a couple of years, they left for Buffalo, NY, where James started work at Ford Motor Company and later they transferred to Lorain, OH with the Ford Plant. They were married for 20 years. Then Florence met and married, Joseph Oswalt.
She worked for several years at Castle on the Lake, Toppers, the Peasant Run and SBS Transit where she worked for 16 years as an aid to the bus driver. Florence loved and enjoyed her family. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and vegetables and enjoyed giving most of the vegetables away. Her greatest past time was reading.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda (Nicholas) Salva, Sharon Moyer, Vicky (Terry) DeWitt; son, Timothy Young; brothers, Luther and Samuel; sister, Liz; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Estelle; father, Corbet; brothers, Clifton, Will and Cecil; and sisters, Mary and Pauline. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kathleen was born on September 27, 1925 in Terra Alta, WV, where she resided until 1962. She was born to her parents, Worley and Grace A. (nee: Livengood) Feather. Kathleen was employed as a supervisor at Shields Nursing Home for 13 years. She was a member of Brethren Church of Mountaindale, WV. Kathleen enjoyed bowling and gardening.
She is survived by daughters, Carol (Marvin) G. Moyers of Hazelton, WV and Karen (George) S. Wyers of Wakeman, OH; son, Reed (Kathryn) Chuck DeBerry of Wakeman; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of forty three years, Junior A. DeBerry in 1990; sons Ronald Dick in 1993 and Roger L. DeBerry in 2010; and brother, Guy W. Feather in 1989.
