Jeanne Marie Cocco

Willoughby Hills, Ohio - Jeanne Marie Cocco, passed away on January 24, 2017 with her loving family by her side after an incredible battle with cancer. Jeanne was born on April 20, 1948 in Lorain, Ohio.

Jeanne met her future husband Dennis A. Cocco at Admiral King High School in Lorain, Ohio.

She graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master of Education from Mount St. Joseph College and obtained a Superintendent License after her Administration Graduate Studies from Cleveland State University. Jeanne spent more than 45 years in education teaching at all levels, mostly as a Special Education Teacher and rose to become Special Education Administrator in the Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools.

After retirement, she went on to instruct student teachers at Lake Erie College and Notre Dame College. Her accomplishments and recognitions were many. She was particularly proud of being selected to the Ohio Governor's Commission on Teaching Success where she co-chaired the School Leadership and Teaching Committee. In March of 2016, Jeanne was awarded the 2016 Outstanding College Supervisor Award from the Ohio Association of Educators for her work with the special education students in the Lake Erie College Education Department.

Jeanne will always be remembered for her love of family and friends. She cherished every moment she could spend with her five grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and golf, and the time she was able to spend with those she loved.

Jeanne was a unique and loving person that touched everyone. A dear friend recently wrote the following which best reflects her: "You are unlike anyone I've ever known. You see people for the qualities they most cherish about themselves and you reflect those back to them. Whenever I see you, well or ill, no matter, you radiate light. Your light has been a guide, an inspiration and always a comfort to me. Thank you for bathing me the in the beauty of your friendship. Jeanne I am grateful to be your friend."

Dear Mr. Cocco, Jon and Jason, So sorry to hear about your loss. A long time has passed since I've seen Mrs. Cocco, however as soon as I heard she passed, I instantly recalled how nice she always was to us when we'd ride our bikes over and play basketball at your house. She was always so pleasant and polite. I'm sure her fight with cancer was met with a strong will and determination. She will be missed. My condolences to you and the extended family. Bill Gibb

Dear Dennis, Jason, Jon and family, Troy and I are extremely sorry for your loss. Jeanne was a special woman who always had a warm genuine smile and a firm hug for me. She is fiercely loyal, a true friend, and giving beyond belief. She has walked through life with my mother through many trials and helped my mother to become the strong woman she is. Even in the midst of her cancer battle Jeanne celebrated our wedding with us throughout our engagement. She gave special gifts, came to the shower, baked the perfect pizelles for our wedding, and traveled to Virginia to share our wedding day. I remember Jeanne and Dennis throughout my childhood to today. It is a rare opportunity to have a 40-year friendship with people in this day. You are missed Jeanne. With love, Jennifer Krstolic Rapp.

Dear Dennis and family, though we spent little time together over the years, we have very wonderful memories of Jeanne. There is a picture of you two at Jim and Sue's wedding that always comes to my mind when I think of you both. Forever young, always happy and so much love between you. The loss hurts all who knew her. She will always be in my prayers and I hope you find comfort in the happy memories in the life you shared. Gods peace be with all your family. Love you

Dear family of Jeanne Cocco: I am so sorry to hear of Miss Jeanne's passing. As her mail carrier, a trip to the door for whatever reason always brought a smile to my face. I want to offer my condolences to the Cocco family and friends. It is a painful thing to lose a love one in death. Our heavenly Father of tender mercies has given us comfort through the scriptures. He calls death an enemy and that it will be taken away forever(1 Corinthians 15:26; Isaiah 25:8). Look at this promise he has given to bring our love one back to life. At Hosea 13:14 From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; From death I will recover them. I hope these words give you comfort and hope.

It was with great sorrow I heard of Jeanne's passing. She and I worked together in the best interest of several students over the years at Willoughby-Eastlake. She was always willing to help and presented herself as a true professional in her knowledge, appearance and desire to be of assistance. Please accept my deepest condolences and prayers to the family.
